SSD on Nvidia shield for Plex server

So I’m going to use the new shield pro for a Plex server I had a 128gb SSD how should I set it up on the shield best for a Plex server , as adoptable or external storage

depends on if you intend to store media on the ssd, and/or if you want to be able to remove the ssd.

  • external storage for media on ssd (removable)
  • adoptable for speeding up apps/plex database that are moved to the ssd (non-removable)

My media is on a Nas so the SSD is just for Plex metadata , so I’m looking for the best way to run it a Plex server

I don’t know if there is any performance difference between

  • external storage + plex data moved to external storage
  • adopted storage + plex data moved to adopted storage

I believe external storage would allow backup/restore of plex db, where as adopted storage would not. (my understanding not necessarily fact)

Ahhh right so no difference in terms of performance then

I can’t say, I don’t use my shield as a server.

Unless someone else has already tested and can post their experience, you should try it both ways.

Either way, keep in mind that while the shield has a great gpu, it still limited by the cpu for all non-gpu-transcoding work.
