Well I am now going onto my 3rd Cache SSD in 7 years. During that time the USED 3TB Hitachi’s I have in the array are still going strong with no bad sectors. It doesn’t crash my setup thankfully, just content tends to disappear until a reboot at which time the Server then removes the SSD as its no longer working. Both were Plextor units.
I’m curious if there is a more “robust” SSD available. I didn’t buy the cheapest, the Plextor I had reviewed well, but I am willing to spend more to stop the short life cycle. My case is very small so I cannot fit another standard drive inside, only an SSD will work. I run a ton of fans and the three HDD’s average 39-41C so I assume the SSD is subjected to similar temps.
I had SSD’s in my home PC as well but abandoned them as I had two fail there as well. And unlike platters data recovery is much for difficult for me. I had hoped over the last 10 years the technology would have become more complete but I seem to be having bad luck.
Any input is appreciated. For temporary use I am putting a Kingston 120G in for now but hopefully an “enterprise” drive is out there or one people have had good luck with in this role.
Thanks
Ryan
