Start Watching Recording in Progress from Beginning(Failing)

What you posted is my #1 reason for using Plex. Right now, its honestly not a huge issue for me until NFL season starts. I have not tested extensively, but playing from the .grab folder seems like a workaround that would work for me.

Ive been looking at alternatives like Emby and even the FREE Live Channels Android app which now has the channel chase feature. The issue with that one is you can only use the Live TV/DVR on the HDMI connected device. No network streaming which would be an issue for the TV shows recorded for my wife.

I use the library created from .grab folder. It works except sometimes stops and I have to forward from the beginning. Apart of that, it works perfect. Of course, it would be better that the option will fix it. I don’t understand why it is taking so long.

Apple tvOS 12.3 and latest plex server (plex pass) and I also have this issue. It is beyond frustrating. If I click ‘start live’ sometimes I can scrub back to the beginning but when I ffwd it skips to live.

I am going to try to do the .grab library and see if that helps because right now my wife cannot watch bachelorette until after it’s done recording. I will pay cash money to get this fixed. Every Monday I have to hear complaining…anyone else? Just me? Sounds right.

I tried the .grab folder without much success. Most of the time if I started watching say 10 minutes after the program started I was unable to get more than 10 minutes into it. And what’s more it seemed to stuff up the proper recording and it failed to record successfully.

So I’ve given up on that technique for now. Who knows, maybe one day they’ll fix this basic functionality…one can dream.

Same problem with the wife here. I went ahead and installed Emby again and will pay for it for a month or two until this gets resolved. She was able to watch it fine that way starting it about an hour in and catch up. Blows my mind that this used to work fine and they haven’t fixed yet. It’s going on a few months now!

Very fed up with this as well. Sick of the “upload logs” excuse/defer tactic. This problem is easily 100% reproducible. Its not some rare issue that affects very few. Obviously this is not an issue Plex feels is important enough to address.

For those on this thread, keep this topic bumped to top of list. Maybe someone from Plex will actually pay attention one day.

Plex doesn’t work that way :slight_smile: They believe YOU work for THEM and all they need to do is read the tea leaves and then tell you how it’s someone elses bug/problem. It’s obvious there is little or no actual testing and/or functional verification that goes on. They operate under open source processes while charging people money!

I’ve turned off all the telemetry I possibly can but there is still a lot of data being “sent home”.

As soon as I can get my wife to switch I’ll have no more users. Unfortunately I own the license :frowning:

Update please. This is absurd. Fix it, Plex.

Has anyone successfully applied for a refund of their lifetime membership? I have had enough of this. Over a year has passed and still no fix is in sight for fundamental DVR time shifting functionality. This is a disgrace . . Enough is enough. I want my money back so that I can take my business elsewhere.

Well, I’ve managed to get it working again consistently since May when I last posted about this issue. I painstakingly tried multiple previous versions of PMS until I arrived at Version 1.15.6.1079. THIS version does seem to work for me and have only had maybe one instance of a recording not starting from the beginning.

Terrified to update to 1.16.1…

Broncos and Falcons less than a month away on August 1st… It’s almost football season and it’s time to fix this issue so that we can watch games from the beginning while they are being recorded. I actually wouldn’t care too much if I hadn’t already been using this feature for 15 years all the way back to windows media center XP (in 2004)!

@corykowa Since versions before 1.16 can no longer use Gracenote, what are you using for a program guide?

They will pro-rate the monthly fee against your Plex Pass for how ever long you’ve had it. Basically they charge you for all the time it hasn’t worked!
