Start Watching Recording in Progress from Beginning(Failing)

On a mac, you can uninstall the current package - then navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/ under your home directory. Here you’ll see previously installed versions. Once uninstalled, you can then install the version you wish.

For Windows users, check out this post: I need to rollback from the latest Plex update

@jebrossard currently the guide is still updating and refreshing for me. I have “enhanced guide” turned off and so far still have 2wks of guide data appearing. From the sounds of it, I may eventually lose this - at which point… back to the drawing board!

This would be so much simpler if Plex just got their act together with this feature…

I just switched to Emby. So far so good. I’ve had enough of Plex. With each new release something else breaks (but don’t worry they’ve added a new feature no one cares about). Do they even bother testing their software anymore?

Unfortunately Emby is not option for me. My couple won’t allow me to change again everything. We are custom with plex interface. I hope that plex could find the solution soon.

my wife is also unhappy.

tonight it happened when she had several friends over for a girls night.

odd that it happens to most wives favourite show - the bachelor(ette) - tried 2 different channels , both have the same issue. Odd that other channels work fine.

she threatened to re-subscribe to cable. CABLE! please plex, I’ve been a cord-cutter since 2009 and a plexpass subscriber since 2013. For the love of everything that is good in this world, please dont make me re-attach the cord!

This is an issue that Plex apparently doesnt care about. There are several threads on this topic. Its been going on for over a year.

Crickets

I am beginning to find it more concerning that they CAN’T fix it?

I am led to believe that there is a team of highly skilled tech’s that are making a living as employees from our money for this paid product, it is quite worrying that they cannot look at these complaint threads and see how annoyed their paid customers are and say “Right let’s fix this” seriously, how long could a take a team of engineers to look at this issue that is so rife and fix it? an afternoon? a day or two at worst?

either way you look at it,

If they can’t fix it = concerned for the future and time to switch product and put money into Emby or similar.

If they don’t wan’t to fix it = concerned for the future and time to switch product and put money into Emby or similar

What’s going on with this? We have been waiting for a year on a fix.

I’ve given up on Plex for live tv, it was doing ok being used for recording but now they’ve messed that up as well.

It’s weird having paid for something which is actually losing functionality.

Spent all afternoon running an Emby Server alongside my Plex Server, to be honest, it is looking like I will be moving permanently… I have just been reading through the forums to see how their users are treated to find peoples problems/bugs/annoyances being responded to in a ridiculously short period of time and as for Live TV… WOW! a proper guide on my LG TV’s (Been waiting forever for Plex along with every other LG user!) it is so snappy, slick and WORKS!

No Surprises here then… :rage:

Version 1.16.3.1402

New

  • (Web) Updated to 3.104.1
  • Add translations for Afrikaans, Finnish and Polish and update existing ones.

Fixes

  • (Library) Filtering shows by audio or subtitle language would fail (#10189)
  • (Metadata) Posters could fail to load on Nvidia Shield servers (#10036)
  • Collection hubs would only display a maximum of six items.
  • Fix Hungarian translations.
  • In single-core systems, loudness analysis might not occur on audio files (10049)
  • Published addresses could fail to update after network interface state changed on macOS (#10192)

I’ve been running Emby for a couple months now and I’ve had the same experience as you. The only outstanding issue I have with Emby is Live TV on the Roku has issues so I still use Plex for that, once Emby gets that fixed I will be totally happy with them.

I looked at Emby but…I dont think I will go that way.
There is no commercial removal
To support my Hauppauge tuner I have to buy and install the Hauppauge software

Couple of other options
Play from the .grab folder. It works but Ive seen some strangeness. I was testing, it was working but then all of a sudden it raced to the end and was at real time.

Kodi with NextPVR. It works using my existing hardware. Crude but that can be useful. I can just do a scheduled recording Vs from the guide. Record channel 9.1 starting at 1:00 and an End date/time. I would still use Plex for recording that I will watch after completed with commercial removal

If you are running a Shield as a PMS (Im not) you can use the free Android TV Live Channels

Just found out this also is broken for rewinding live TV without recording. When can we expect a fix on this? This is absurd.

Update please, @sa2000

Basically, if you do not need commercial removal (Its coming to Emby) or you could use mcebuddy Emby just works, unhappy Wife = Unhappy life!, try explaining to your Wife that it will be fixed… I know it has been a year but it will be fixed honest! With Emby on our LG TV’s she now has the proper EPG as well, so she has gone from broken recordings without EPG to everything working flawlessly with a proper EPG as well… believe me, she hammered it tonight & loves it!

@elan

How about some update on this basic flaw in LiveTV/DVR functionality that has been going on for far too long?

Confirmed, the behavior is now on live TV as well, no recording in progress. Basically a fundamental feature of timeshifting just plain does not work.

Whats crazy is this did work. I used it last NFL season without any issue

I’ve seldom used this feature, but if I try it now and the show has been going more than around 15 minutes when I select play from the beginning it starts near where the show currently is.

I am wondering if the Plex employees use those features?
