Start Watching Recording in Progress from Beginning(Failing)

Pardon my ignorance… that’s an NAS right? Also your server? What is your client?

Nvidia shield and fire tv
Edit: using the latest beta versions

Same issue as everyone else.

Fix it please. I rerouted my antennae through my roof to use Plex DVR.

We’re being ignored. The length and age of this thread is a clue. I’m tempted to report them to my state AG for false advertising.

I’ve already sent off a letter to the Texas AG. Don’t forget the bait and switch on the “lifetime guide” if you do. I provided links to the appropriate threads  And if you’re a ROKU user, the year long wait for the grid guide.

Also experiencing this issue since about two Plex Pass updates ago. Running plexmediaserver_1.18.6.2368-97add474d_amd64.deb currently. Shows recording happening but will no longer trigger the “Start from Beginning” as it used to.

No other changes to the system except the update.

What bait and switch are you talking about?

this is crazy… I mean, how have they NOT seen this thread?? unfortunately, I can tell you guys the player in the nvidia shield pro seems to work WAY better than the roku player. Though it also comes with its own issues… like no easy way to start recording an already streaming show?? and a few other items… But this issue seems to not occur at all. I know that doesn’t say much… Because Roku is a HUGELY popular platform, and they definitely should be at least acknowledging that there is an issue here.

what a shame :frowning:

Yeah, I paid for a single month and I was ready to commit to the Emby Lifetime immediately. It has been such a relief to have a working DVR service. Plex and the shills they pay to promote them online should be ashamed of themselves. I cannot believe this Plex DVR debacle has gone on for so long.

We paid for the Emby service for a month and were ready to commit to a lifetime immediately. The Emby DVR works so well. It’s sad that Plex hasn’t been able to solve this issue. At least they have Tidal and ad supported movies.

I choose all three options. At least by participating in Choice 3 gives some insight that others are having the same issues and they are not alone and that there are other options that could lead others for Choice 1. I have really no idea of how to really make Choice 2 effective. I have made some comments on the YouTube streamers, especially the paid sponsored channels, but I don’t think it’s enough. Any suggestion on where to voice?

I have had no success with time shifting using a turnkey FreeNAS setup from ixsystems nor with a top spec Windows 10 setup. The only clients we use are Nvidia Shield TVs, all three versions, including the latest Pro version have failed. We use two HDHomerun 3 tuner Primes and all of this is hardwired to a gigabit network. I have yet to try a Linux build and I probably won’t. Maybe Plex has bitten off more than they can chew? We have had nothing but success using Emby DVR.

It’s no better on Nvidia Shield, unless you use Emby!

We only use Emby for DVR and use Plex for our media server. It’s funny because we set up a library to watch the Emby DVR recorded content in Plex. Live TV and time shifting program watching is done with Emby.

This is never going to work is it? Tivo (good old workhorse) burped tonight and messed up my nba recording. Will plex start the in-progress one I always record for when I’m away, from the beginning, on any client I use? NO. Not in a web brower, not on a mibox, not on shield tv. None of them offer me to start from the beginning. Pathetic.

I switched to HDHomerun’s DVR for $35/yr and save recordings to a folder set as a Plex library. I can live without live timeshifting until next football season rolls around.

Their interface sucks for live TV also, but it’s cheaper for now and I want to see what happens between now and September on all DVR/timeshifting platforms and products. At least I can pause it and take a leak and come back and continue where I left off and FF through commercials. That will suffice for March Madness and the NBA playoffs.

What gives here, @DaveBinM? This has been a problem for over a year with little to no progress.

Having this same issue here. Watching on Roku. After starting in progress recording from the beginning, I could fast forward at first. After watching some time it was then impossible to fast forward any more, the progress bar was no longer moving. The show kept playing but there was no ability to fast forward to live any more. Trying to transition from Windows Media Center DVR to Plex DVR. The WMC guide seems to keep going after appearing to go away twice in the past month or two. So for this particular show we switched back to good old WMC for better experience watching in progress recording.

I wanted to follow up my previous post to add some positivity to this thread.

Installing the latest update plexmediaserver_1.18.7.2415-9930aef45_amd64.deb yesterday returned my ability to Start from Beginning.

Hopefully others will find that to be the case as well.
