Just thought I would chime in here. I have been following this thread for a few months. Server is running on Win10 and my primary client is Roku premiere. I have had the same issues described in this thread. Nothing seems to be fixed.
I do want to add as well i tried Emby yesterday after suggestions from this thread and unfortunately I am seeing the same issue as Plex. When a show is Live and being recorded I can only start from the current live point or start from the beginning, no fast forward or rewind, so maybe this is an issue across different software platforms.
I was able to watch the debate last night and came in about 30 min later than it started. I saw the start from beginning and started watching it. During the show, I was able to fast forward several times and go back several times to hear something again. Clearly there is an issue here and some of you have it… but it does work for others as well.
Nvidia shield Pro (2015) server and watching on the same machine as the client.
And clearly your setup of having both the server and the client on the same node in a streaming environment is an outlier, especially on an expensive shield. It’s been noted multiple times that the Shield software is different than what is used by the majority of devices and, per PLEX, the ROKU is supposed to be their “unified GUI” target.
Regardless, it’s not “some of you have it”, it’s MOST of us have it and there has been no progress towards resolution. In fact, I see a couple newer threads supporting what I’ve seen that even the Shield fails, just not as frequently as others.
Glad it works for you but I’m not about to “invest” $200+ per TV for a Shield nor will I recommend it to those I support.
Glad it’s working for you. Now please allow the rest of us underlings to report it’s not working for the masses.
Yep agreed. I bought the shield pro to get atmos/vision audio. But other than that. the roku SHOULD work as expected. The shield seems to have a slightly different client. Hopefully plex can somehow port the shield client over to roku?
It’s also not working on ATV4K and most other OTT devices that PLEX claims to support.
PS - we all also know that PLEX has basically abandoned this thread months ago. It’s just good to keep it alive for those in search of a solution can see what’s not going on
While we’re working to make all clients look the same (or very, very, very similar), there are different code bases for different platforms, so some will perform differently (not to mention the differences in different hardware).
You can break TV clients down to basically:
Roku
Apple TV
Android TV
Web TV (PS4, LG, PMP, Xbox, and other devices)
So how about giving all of us an update of what’s been done and what the plans are?
I can tell you that for the ATV4K and the ROKU there has been absolutely no observable progress on any of these issues for at least 6-8 months and there is no mention I can see in any of the release notes, client nor server, to indicate otherwise.
Saying that you’re working on things without progress nor plan is for all intent and purpose an abandonment.
It’s still under active investigation (I myself reproduced and provided additional data to our engineering team yesterday), and the plan is to improve the reliability of this feature. I can’t give any timelines or ETAs on this, I’m afraid, but it’s definitely something we want to get fixed!
That’s all I can say for now. I don’t know when, and I’m not going to make dates, or promise things that I don’t know for sure. All I’m trying to convey here is that this issue hasn’t been forgotten, and it’s something we want to fix. I’m providing everything I can right now.
Thank you for the update. At least we know that there are still plex members on the forums lol. It is really unfortunate that this isn’t being taken more seriously. recording/dvr/livetv are fundamental to being able to “cut the cord” and plex is really no where near where it should be with those regards. Heck, it’d be nice if I could like record a current show I am watching from the “androidtv” app… Now i have to go to my phone and record it from there. At least with the roku I could do that.
Interesting… Dave’s comments, or more precisely the careful wording of his comments, make me think it’s NDA talk, which would be great if Plex is working with an outside vendor to completely replace the disaster that is the current Plex DVR.
It would be awesome if PleX and Channels DVR merged.
I started watching the XFL game today. Recording scheduled in advance with 30 minute extension in case of overtime. Went down to the man cave to start about 120 minutes into the game. I was offered to start from beginning. I fast forward through all the commercials without any problems. I got hungry for some dinner at about half time. I completely shut down the system, ate dinner and then went back to man cave to continue watching the game. By now the recording had finished and I was expecting to have to fast forward to get back to where I was, but to my surprise I was offered the option to continue where I left off.
On my Firestick 4K, since couple of months, I can watch from the beginning when record is in progress. But, the biggest problem I have if is I have two recording back to back and i’m trying to watch from the beginning the second show, it start from the beginning of the first one. So if i’m recording Show A from 7PM to 7:30PM and Show B from 7:30PM to 8PM, If i’m trying to start from beginning of the Show B, it start at the beginning of the Show A, so I have to FF all the show A.
