Oddly, I had just about the same experience. Unfortunately I had to switch my OTA TV entertainment to Emby to achieve this.
Still use Plex for movies, the interface seems more intuitive.

I’ve been using this every single day in my household since before it was publicly released, however, I’m not an engineer.
Show us your logs!
What would you even do with them?
I’ve already analysed them, and passed them on to the developers
Playback was working ok ( with version released about 1 month ago ) let say 80% from all my devices, Android tablet, phone and tv and the ipad.
Upgraded to server version Version 1.18.8.2461 and its 100% broken again, has not worked once in 2 days!
Have been trying to use the plex media server on Nvidia shield pro, as well as a windows 10 machine. Play from the start does not show up on the original server, fire stick or roku or web interface ever, while the show is recording, regardless of whether I am 5 minutes in to it or 2 hours. I have to always wait till the recording is complete. HD Homerun is the the cable tuner being used. also sometimes it allows me to record a show while it has started, but most of the time it does not. . only shows that have not started yet.
We’re in the process of improving on some of the issues listed in this thread (a combination of fixes, and some new Live TV & DVR features). Most notably Watch from Start not being shown, and improving on tuning times, as well as the ability to see the guide without stopping playback. You can read a bit more about some of the work we’re doing here: Live TV & DVR: Fixes and Improvements
This is by no means an exhaustive list, but some of the things we’re close to releasing.
Please list those issues and stop with the double talk. It’s been almost 2 years.
Checking in to see if it’s fixed yet?
Someone give us the word when timeshifting becomes usable on a ROKU so it shows up in my threads please.

I originally posted my comment that Plex broke what was working back in May-2019. I see this list of Fixes and “Improvements”. “Cool Improvements” are worthless if 1) core functionality is still not working and 2) if they break existing features with updates.
Watch from Start used to work and then was broken in an “improvement” update. And a recent server update broke Commercial Skip (I’ll go onto that thread to say more). Is there a QA department anywhere in Plex? And in all seriousness, does anybody do regression testing before a release? There is no excuse for the lack of response, lack of expertise and lack of QA. As a lifetime member, I have not switched to Emby yet. However, when asked for a reference, I can not recommend Plex and suggest investigating others.
New server beta with some Live TV & DVR changes and fixes is now available
This should make starting from the beginning much more reliable for in progress recordings ![]()
Just curious why the Live TV & DVR changes and fixes aren’t in the release notes? I usually read those to determine whether or not to install.
That should update shortly, it was just an internal mix up
This update seems to actually break things for me. I am no longer presented with an option to watch from beginning or watch live; it just plays from the beginning.
1.19.1.2589 beta and latest stable Roku release.
I wish there was a thread per release to report issues like this. I’m scared to ever upgrade due to bad bugs creeping into every couple releases. Especially when some of those bugs have led to corrupt recordings…
Woah. That’s very different from my experience. It will start from the beginning if it’s very close to the start of the recording, but if it’s more than a few minutes in, you should be prompted
Can you provide some server and client logs, please?
Okay, that could be the reason! Let me do a little more testing. I’ll provide logs if it still isn’t working.
EDIT: Okay, it looks like I jumped the gun!
I think it was too close to the beginning. Tested it again, and it is working.
Yeah, I think it’s something like 2-3 minutes from the start, it just starts at the beginning

Glad to hear it’s working correctly for you now!
I updated to 1.19.1.2589, It still seems very buggy to me!! The Roku (4k stick and Ultra) still very slow to scan live tv.
Android TV (sony x950g TV) was much quicker for live tv, (happy about this) but I scanned to the middle of the program, then scanned to the beginning of the program for a live program, and it seemed to start playing somewhere in the middle of the previous show, so it took me all but 5 minutes to find some pretty major bugs.
Perhaps the Roku playing somehow messed up the android app, I don’t know? Roku, I had the latest version of the plex app.
On Android TV, while scanning back and forth live TV, Eventually it got an error telling me to reset PMS and reset this app and try again. Some of the time, scanning was disabled until I reset the Plex Android TV app.
After that point, I went back to Roku and it was able to play from the beginning but the same old sluggish Roku when tuning. My PMS runs on a laptop (i7) while my tv tuner is HD Homerun Connect DUO. Looks like there is still work to be done, BUT THANK YOU FOR WORKING ON THIS, BUT PLEASE CONTINUE THE WORK!!
BTW thanks for the broadcast email regarding the improvements, I will be glad to continue to give rapid feedback on these bugs as I find them.
I can confirm that tuning on the Roku isn’t really any quicker, but I have a feeling this is just a limitation of the Roku, so we might just have to live with it.
Time-shifting on Roku still is broken using the latest stable release. You usually have to seek once to get the progress bar and time to update, then you can seek again and it will work.
