State of lg full hd tv's with webos 2?

Server Version#: 1.18.2.2058
Player Version#: 3.13.28
Webos Version#: 2.2.0

I know that lg webos tv’s that are full hd are not updated with plex uno app.
And i know that plex uno app fixed subtitle issue (transcoding video when subtitle is on) on many clients.

I don’t ask for plex uno app on full hd webos 2.2.0 tv
I ask is there a chance you can fix subtitle causing video transcoding on older plex app.
I watch all my media with external .srt subtitle files

When i watch movie with subtitle on different programs i get:

  1. DLNA - direct play
  2. Emby - direct play
  3. Xplay - direct play
  4. Plex trough webos browser - direct play
  5. Plex app - video transcoding.

So even plex web app trough webos browser can direct play them, why plex app can’t?

If you can’t give as direct play with srt files, is it possible for direct stream then?

Or if you can’t do nothing, what should i do to avoid transcoding with srt files?

Can @markus101 or some other plex developer comment this post…

Thank you.

Specifically the fix is to allow selecting a secondary audio track and continuing to direct play, instead of direct streaming, which in turn allows subtitles without transcoding. If the primary audio track is suitable for direct play then it will direct play.

Unfortunately that would be the only way this issue is resolved; we’re not upgrading the old TV app.

It’s not possible due to issue with synchronization, it’s also something that would require an update, which is not on the table.

The only workaround at this time would be use a supported audio codec in the primary audio track (avoid TrueHD for example).

My movie files that are watched on lg tv are all 720p with filesize around 1gb. Problem is my server is on raspberry pi 3B which can’t transcode at all. I can watch 4K files on samsung 2016 tv direct play without problem with subtitles (before uno app samsung tv also had problems with subtitles, but it was direct streaming, not transcoding)…

So these 720p movie files don’t have trueHD… also i never changed audio track, i think none of my movies that is playing on lg have secondary audio track

Can you tell me what audio codecs to try?

Enabling logging to the server and checking the server logs should give you an indication why it’s not direct playing, but one this to check is the container, mp4 should have no issues direct playing in my experience, but mkv is a problem as support on webOS 2 is incomplete (they started properly supporting it in webOS 3).
