This is driving me nuts…absolutely nuts!
I have a synology disk station with plex media server installed on it. (latest version too 1.13.4.xxxx)
Anyways, I simply want to stream music to my laptop from my disk station. I dont want to be required to log in every single time just to play some music. This is ridiculous. I have searched over and over again and cant count how many times this issue has been brought up. Why is this such a difficult thing to understand?
I have tried the method of adding my local subnet to the no auth section of the plex server with zero success.
In a nut shell.
I just want plex media server running on my Disk Station(…check).
Log into Plex_Media_Server_IP:32400 and just listen to local music, “without requiring to login”(…not checked!)
Now perhaps its a plex bug, or crap design…perhaps its a configuration on my disk station, i don’t know, but can someone “pleaaaaase” help me to get this working without logging in? I really like the idea of having all my music at my finger tips. This would be great if it could work without needing to login.
I have already added my subnet to the “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”
What else can I check or do? Can it be an issue with http vs https?
If the server signs in and associates with your Plex.tv account,
Once you start the app and sign it in one time, it’s done and saved.
The app remembers your credentials until such time as you tell it to sign out.
If this isn’t working for you, please let me know which app.
I use Plex/web, iOS, Roku, Apple tvOS, Samsung tv app and they all work without incident.
Ok, well seems this was the issue…“staying signed in”. Seems a but confusing. Wanting to use it without signing in requires signing in and staying signed in.
I was signing in and configuring the server for no auth, but then signing out closing the tab.
I did as you suggested and did “not” sign out…closed the tab…added a block internet firewall rule to test this.
I was still able to connect to the server without needing to be redirected for a sign in.
Is there anyway to use this without needing anything to be signed in though? Its working now though, thanks, so no big deal if there is no way to make it truly offline, but if there is…how would it be done?
The direct answer is “No”. This is how Plex wants the server and apps to be used. The reason behind this is for augmentation by Plex Pass features. When you subscribe, additional features are enabled automatically. The software already exists in what you are using.
I see this much like using a streaming service like Netflix. I can’t use it without being signed in.
