Stop photos from cropping

No worries. I’m just glad you (a Plex employee) is talking!

if when you know this fix is on a timeline, that would be great as far as crafting general expectations. even if it was something as vague and non-committal as “Q3 2018”…

I appreciate any and all communication. I’m a lifetime member and love Plex. Thanks!

The problem appears to be fixed!

Installed a new server update, finally got Grid View in the Program Guide. Yay!

And the cropping problem in the Web Viewer appears to be resolved too!

Thank you so much. Now I can use Plex as my universal comic book reader.

well look like this auto cropping annoying thing still happen and:

  1. Is quite sad to see that in ore that one year there is no correction on this
  2. There is no setting to turn it off

i attach a file as an example

as you can see even the thumbnail has more image than the one on the top, that i don’t even know what i should call to the top image.. my expectations as in any other software that have such feature as Gallery, i was expecting to see the full untouched, unminimized, unzipped, uncropped original image, insted i get some algorithmic useless piece of crap.

Sorry if my words look hard but user data should be untouchable, you could have the more expectacular previews, thumnalis or what ever, but the original, that should be show in full. no like that!

I you want to have add value, add this as a feature that the user can set to off, add some “editing” tools for images o the user can ajust the image, but never ever forbid the user or restric the user the way he should see the full image, otherwise the all system became useless.

Hope this can help you improve the solution and I really looking foward to see results before the end of the year, so i finally be able to show the images on plex insted of using AGAIN windows slide show…

Just came across the post and i totally agree with you, this is frustrating especially when the only reason I purchased the PlexPass was solely for this functionality.
I do hope this team gets a resolution soon.

Hi is me again… well just to share here some nice things i just find out:

  1. The width of the big image is calculated on relation with the height of the browser, so if you minimize the height of the browser will produce an image with the width reduced
  2. (This for me is the best) each big image is calculated on the server, so there is no JS or CSS cropping the image, is all done on the server side!

So first note, its a shame that no one from Plex had said anything about this on the past 21 days…

Second, there is a lot of nice technices to ajust the image on the frontned using CSS and JS. And them you will save a lot of money because you dont need to render on server side, any time any one resize the browser !!! just imagen how much money you will save and can do more cool stuff with that!!!

Guys this is not a feature is a f***** understandable nightmare!!! Fix it please, is taking more than expected for your reaction.

FWIW, the behavior is much improved since my last post to this thread last June (above), in which RAF files were improperly displayed even in playback mode, but the thumbnails are still borked as of today’s latest build (PlexMediaServer_1.13.8.5395-10d48da0d_x86_64.qpkg) for the QNAP TS-451+ NAS device. (latest firmware is v4.3.5.0728 build 20181013). Now playback is fine, but thumbnails are mis-proportioned. Browser is the lastest Chrome without any CSS rewriting plug-ins.
