Is there anyway to tell OpenPHT never to start on boot (on OSX El Capitan). If I shutdown the system from the OpenPHT menu when I next boot it tries to start the software with the system and ~80% of the time it hangs at the splash screen. Occasionally it doesn’t true to start and then it’s possible to run things normally.
I could just quit and then shutdown at the OS level but with the shutdown option being there …
Wasn’t ticked there, nor is it in the login items started in the users section of the settings app.
If the system is booted normally, not having been shutdown from OpenPHT then all is well and OpenPHT does not attempt start. It only tries to start on boot if the system has been shutdown from the menu option within OpenPHT.
@thempstead:
To me it sounds as if that relaunch of OpenPHT is not something decided by OpenPHT itself, but rather by the OSX system, which apparently ‘wants’ to restart a new session using the same application that terminated the previous one. If so, then there should be some system setting to control this behaviour.
One document I found about auto-restart of OSX apps had this to say:
When you log in, apps that were open the last time you used your Mac automatically re-open. When you log out, you can select or deselect “Reopen windows when logging back in” from the Log Out window. This option sets whether your apps should re-open the next time you log in. It remains selected the way you last set it, so you have to change this setting only when you want to change the current behavior.
So if you log out manually from a normal OSX session (having quit out of OpenPHT without shutdown), you should have the option to disable future auto-relaunches of OpenPHT (or any other app making a shutdown).
I’m not an OSX user myself, so I’m not sure if that option is implemented the same way in all OSX versions.
But since some version clearly had it, I think all versions should have some variation of it, even if you may have to search a bit to find it in yours.
Yes I see that option if i quit and then manually shutdown and I have it unticked there so things do not start again automatically … And if I go through the cycle again then on another manual shutdown that option will be unticked still … But the problem still occurs if the system is shutdown from within OpenPHT …
