My brother and I each have a media server and we like to watch things on each other’s server. I would like Plex to know which movies/tv shows I’ve already watched on my brother’s server when I’m on mine and vice versa. So if I watch Castle s01e05 on mine when I switch to his it should also be showing Castle s01e06 on the On Deck area.
This is also useful if your server crashes because then you lose your spot in every TV show you’ve watched.
Would it be possible to store this data of what’s been watched on the user account instead of the server?
there are some alternatives. you can find plex-sync on github which syncs complete libraries between servers or use some third party addon like trakt.tv to sync it.
I don’t think @jsis0718 is talking about syncing libraries. He is talking about saving play/watched status with your account instead of on each individual Plex Media server.
I too would love to see this feature added to Plex, even if only for Plex Pass subscribers since it will be a cost to the company, i.e. a simple database so store the data.
I agree. I was using Emby for a while.
While there approach was slightly different and still didn’t store the watched/resume data with the user account it does actually store it in an optional .nfo file with the media item itself.
Bottom line was ever a total OS wipe and reinstall those watched and even resume status as soon as the media was scanned back in.
Not as “clean” as what is being requested but maybe still an easier viable option.
