Strange behaviour or was not aware... Connected to server "Indirect"

Hi to all,

Trying to understand what was happening…
I was trying to sync some of my media tonight to my tablet within my network, however I noticed that when some of my friends are using my media, sync seems to take a back seat (5mins normally to 600+ minutes)

I wanted to do this quickly so I decided to disable remote access on my main server to sync quickly - however people were still able to connect.

So on my mobile phone - I removed wifi, and went on mobile network and it connected on my server with the word “indirect” and was still able to access my server even if remote access was disabled.

I am not sure if i dont understand how it works or not but assumed if remote access outside my network was off - no one would be able to connect?

Couple question leads from this - instead of deleting a user or removing what they can see in yrou folders, is there a way to temporarily stop people from connecting… and is there a way to avoid users using my media and avoid my sync to take a back seat?

Many thx in advance.

Ben

The feature you discovered is called ‘Relay’. For now it is in test mode and only available for Android clients.

Going forward, it will be possible to switch it off, likely together with the normal remote access. The “lever” just hasn’t been made yet.

thx for the reply - does this relay also work with friends connecting outside network using their own plex web on my server?

seems it does as they were still reconnecting when remote was disabled?

If you have created a manual portforwarding in your router, then this porforwarding is still in effect - even if you click on ‘disable remote access.’
You have to erase the portforwarding in your router to completely disable the remote access.

All of the above has nothing to do with the relay feature, btw.
