Stream audio through host?

Hey guys, newb here

I just finished setting up a home-wide hi-fi system and would like to hook my music library to it. I have a Raspberry Pi 3 in the mail and would like to hook it up to the house’s aux input, and use Plex as a remote for it.

Ideally, I would go on the Plex app on my phone, look for a song, and have it play on the host (the Raspberry Pi) rather than my phone’s speakers, so it can be streamed throughout the house.

This is different from how I’ve been using Plex so far so I’m asking for your help. Is this possible, and if yes, how can I do it?

Thank you for your help,
Gabriel.

I cannot recommend the RasPi’s analog audio output.
Its quality is seriously subpar. Even your phone’s headphone jack sounds better.

Use a Chromecast Audio instead. It is the best for your use case.

Save the RasPi as a video plex client, running Rasplex.

That’s interesting now that you mention it. Would it still be possible to use Plex to stream the audio to the Chromecast’s own aux cord instead of my phone?

I’m not sure I understand the question.
I only mentioned your phone’s headphone output for a quality comparison.

The CC has no user interface, so it needs to be operated from a Plex client. (Plex Web, mobile apps etc.) see https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/sections/200276908-Plex-Companion

So, you go through your home with your phone in hand and the Plex app on it open.
Select your music and ‘cast’ it to the CC.

Raspberry Pi with HiFiBerry DAC, install Rasplex, connect to Home audio system, control playback using iOS/Android phone/tablet Plex client, I use a couple of RPi’s this way.
