Stream freezes but timer continues

I am not sure if this is server or client so I am posting in general.

In the last month or two I have noticed (and a friend has noticed who watches my library remotely) that many videos (if not all) will freeze playing (video and audio). The only way to fix it is to back out of the video (not Plex) and go back in. I did notice that the timer still goes like the video is playing and the video will resume at that point, not the point it froze.

So far this has happened on:
nVidia Shield (Local)
Android Phone (Local)
Roku TV (Remote)
Xbox Series X (Local) but this one I get a spinning buffering and the timer does not count up still

On one video I noticed it on the Shield, I tried on my TCL Android TV and it did not happen.

I looked at the server whilst this was happening, no resource issues in Windows or on the Plex console. I am currently at work and cannot troubleshoot at this exact moment but can when I get home. I was also hoping this is a known thing with a known solution that someone can point out and I can try later.

Thanks for any help!

Here are the network logs from the Shield client. In this timeframe there should be 1 event where it happened. I did download the server logs but I would rather not post in public view.

NetworkLogs.txt (10.4 KB)

Something in the logs I am currently testing

[MediaDecisionEngine] Unable to direct play; E-AC-3 audio is not supported by the device

SO FAR anything with that audio format is doing it. I am locating and checking other videos, very time consuming though, having to watch 10 minutes into each one.

EDIT: Audio AC-3 is doing it too. I tried disabling “Use hardware acceleration when available” and “Use hardware-accelerated video encoding” with the same result

I am at my wits end here. I don’t know what else to do. Hoping someone can jump in and try and help.

Now someone else who watches remote is saying the same thing. Plex is unwatchable at this point until I can find out what is causing this. Moving categories to see if I can get a response

No replies but if anyone else stumbles on this.

I think it might be the NAS I am storing my files on. While doing some testing I noticed that when browsing the shares I would get spikes where it takes 4-8 seconds for the sub folder to show up (after trying to open a sub folder).

I copied some files to the server locally and created a new library and the issue in Plex is not happening. Guess I have a NAS to troubleshoot.
