Since a couple of days (last release/update), Plex plays H.264 video streams for a couple of minutes (5 to 15) then suddenly freezes the video (the last frame is kept displayed) while the audio track goes on with no glitch or error. It seems scene transitions (such as fade from/to black) are good “candidates” to trigger this issue.
It does not seem to depend on the player HW or OS as it occurs on both my iPhone 6s and my iPad2, which are both up to date with the latest available iOS release. It does not seem to trigger on my Mac Book Pro player though.
The server is always a Synology NAS (ARM-based) running Plex Server 1.7.5 (same issue with 1.7.3), with no transcoding, playing H.264 480 and 720p streams I saw with the very same setup (including WLAN) countless times. All devices are on the same 5GHz (W)LAN.
How to debug this blocking issue?
Unfortunately, neither moving back and forth in the video stream or pausing/playing back rarely unlocks the freeze (which seems to invalidate any network congestion or limited CPU power on the server): Plex player needs to be closed, and restarted to resume normal playback.
