I have a Mac mini running the Plex server and a Synology NAS. I am having problems getting the Music setup. I exported the iTunes library to a music directory on the NAS. After that I went to settings and added the folder that the xml file is located. But the music files never show up. When I refresh the music library, its almost like there is nothing there???
I do not know what the iTunes export folder structure is, but if it doesn’t match what Plex wants, that is the first problem to solve.

Also, what file format is the music? If it is some DRM’d Apple format I would not expect it to work either.
Apple has removed DRM from their music files decades ago (I just stumbled when I wrote that and made myself check… that was in 2009). [edit: Plex won’t be able to play DRM’ed media but it should still catalog them fine]
@thompsdw2025 : key point is as per BanzaiInstitute’s response → make sure your music is organized according to Plex’s required folder structure; iTunes / Apple Music hierarchy will mostly comply with that; exceptions might be folders for Compilations etc.
Point your Plex library to the media folder – not some folder containing an Apple Music / iTunes XML file. Plex could use that XML to read/import additional details like playlists (see Settings > [Server Name] > Library > iTunes library XML path) – though not sure if / how well this is working. Setting this path has nothing to do with scanning/cataloging your media in Plex!

iTunes library XML path
You can enter the full path to the main XML file for your iTunes library. This is typically only necessary if the iTunes library is in a non-standard location. This is for importing iTunes Playlists
Note: From iTunes Version 12.2 and later the library XML file is not created by iTunes. You must enable it in iTunes advanced preferences. iTunes - Official Apple Support
