Stutter at 10Mbs wired connection

I am wondering if anyone else has encountered the issues of stuttering and buffering while streaming at a 10Mbps bitrate. None of the other devices on my network have this issue. FYI, I have a gigabit network, so speed is not an issue

What kind of RasPlex setup are you using ?

Any overclocking ?

Do you run RasPlex from USB3 stick or just an SDcard, and in the latter case what class of card ?

I never made any hard-core speed tests before switching to an overclocked USB3 setup, but my current bitrate limit with both those improvements is slightly more than 20 Mbps, so it's not unreasonable that half that bitrate could cause occasional stutters for a setup without overclocking, especially if using a slow SDcard.

i dont think SDcard would make any difference on playback as its not using it.

SDCard would though make a big difference on GUI smoothness as its loading lots of graphics & fanart from it.

Yes, I suppose you're right about that, assuming that none of the software involved in playback uses disk-based caching at any point (since the 'disk' would be the SDcard for an RPi).

But the overclocking must play a big role in all operations, so without any overclocking the bitrate limit must be considerably lower than 20 Mbps. I'm just not sure of how low it would be.

Oh yes. Using a USB3 stick instead has a huge impact on the GUI usage.

I run off a fast SD card with some very mild overclocking. Stability is good and all SD content plays fantastically well (although I do occasionally notice a very slight "blip" where it sounds like the audio track has very very slightly slowed down for just a fraction of a second. It does not affect the video at all and is barely noticeable).

However I have experienced two or three occasions in the last number of days where playback of fairly high bitrate / resolution movies can sometimes start to choke (sometimes 30 - 45 minutes in). I don't get any buffering messages and rasplex becomes unresponsive. Sometimes it recovers for a few seconds but then chokes again until totally frozen. I usually then change over to the Samsung Plex app to continue my viewing, and by the time I return to rasplex later in the day I find that rasplex has rebooted and is back at Search on the homescreen.

It's not consistent: earlier today I watched a 6GB MKV with DTS audio all the way through, no transcoding, with nary an issue.

Whenever RasPlex does choke on a bitrate it can lead to odd results including reboot.
But we can't really draw any conclusions about RasPlex capability from such reports without more info, such as CODECs and bitrate.

I assume that was a movie with a playing time of appx one and a half hours. That equals 5400 seconds, and 6 GB equals slightly more than 50 million kilobits (6*1024*1024*8), and dividing that by the time gives us appx 9.3 Mbps. (lower if the movie was longer)

That's a bitrate which I think is slightly below the upper limit of an RPi without overclocking.
But if you go much higher than that I would expect such an RPi to choke.
