Stutter & Lag issues with Live TV on Nvidia Shield TV

Continuing the discussion from Major Issues with Live TV on Shield TV | Not Primetime Ready & Certainly Not Super Bowl Ready:

@tomahan: I have since given up on the Nvidia Shield TV as a Plex server. The idea was great and the execution was lackluster. Essentially, I have given up hope in that the support from Plex simply isn’t high enough on their priority list. The hardware is capable, but it has been proven time and time again that the PC software versions of Plex are more stable and better supported.

With that being said, I have moved my Plex server to a docker container within an Unraid server and let me tell you, the many issues that I have faced have since gone away.

What was attractive with the Nvidia Shield TV as the server was:

  1. Lower energy consumption
  2. Frees up resources on my Unraid server

So, despite me having to use more system resources and energy to host the Plex server on the Unraid server, the time spent on trying to get the Plex Shield TV server performing better simply isn’t worth it anymore. And trust me, I have been on the sidelines for years now waiting for Plex Shield TV to rival its brothers.

I hope that the Shield TV continues to be supported and developed upon.

P.S. - After moving to the docker container, I can now enjoy the TV theme music that plays in the background from all of my devices. This feature and function broke many years ago and hasn’t been fixed. My how I forgot how such a trivial detail could make the viewing experience that much more pleasant. But that’s why we like Plex (when everything is working) is the UX display and experience — after all, it’s called a home theater experience for a reason right?
