Then don’t know. Android app has a huge amount of bugs and some things are just not working. There are even buttons, that do absolutely nothing. And Plex team doesn’t even care.
Also be careful if you’re on OLED - after playback is done, it prevents TV screensaver from starting.
Even SRT subs can have embedded color formattings. Can you extract the SRT subtitle and open it in a text editor?
You should be able to see the color tags if there are any in there.
HDR content by design is mastered for 100% light output. My LG OLED CX TV is so bright that even with light grey/yellow or blended grey/yellow they all appear as near white. If I look very very very carefully they are tiny tiny bit different than full white, but still very blindingly bright it is hard to decipher.
Suggest add a dark-grey color or black without white-outline? Better yet user adjustable colors for subtitles or even transparency like Netflix has?
I have an issue where the Subtitles are just black text with a black boarder on some apps and near impossible to read.
I’ve had issues with the Samsung Galaxy tablet app ( Android App Store), Tivo app, PS4 App and Firestick app. The only thing that seems to work correctly is the Chrome Web-Player.
Samsung tablet - I got this to work briefly but re-loading the content no longer takes the adjusted settings. They default to black text with a black boarder.
Firestick has the subtitle settings but they don’t work at all. Always display as black text with a black boarder
PS4 I can’t find the setting and subtitles display as black text with a white boarder (this is better)
Tivo I also can not find the settings and get black text with a black boarder.
It looks like I’m not the only one so any help would be appreciated.
I’ve tried styling my choosing different style settings (like Color) on Android mobile, Shield TV, and my desktop web player and none of them change the styling. It just shows whatever the default is from the external sources from here:
This preference is only working on subtitle text formats which don’t have their own style instructions inside.
ASS is a format which can have pretty detailed and extensive styling instructions.
Android TV has a special preference which allows you to override the internal styling instructions:
“Override included subtitle styling” - Activate it.
