Subtitle force transcoding of live TV

I spent sometime testing the Plex DVR feature and I faced the following problems.

During live TV, I found no way to:

  • Select audio stream/language
  • Enable/Disable subtitles. On most channel subtitles are displayed, and I really do not need those.

Even worse, the unwanted subtitles forced transcoding (dvb_subtitles not supported in mpegts…)

Plex server: 1.15.0.659
Client: nvidia shield with latest version

Am I overlooking something or is this some kind of a bug?

Hi @FuN_KeY,
The one thing I can suggest you check is under Languages in the PMS Server settings, and make sure Subtitle Mode is set to Manual, I had a similar issue and doing this setting cured it for myself on Android, iOS, Roku and Linux Chrome+Plex Media Player.

Just a suggestion, unless you’ve already checked in there…

Dave

Thank you Dave for the suggestion, this should help.

The thing is, for other media type I like to have auto subtitle. Plex should let me change those settings directly from the live TV interface, as it is for other media type. This limitation does not make sense imho.

Cheers !

I have a related issue, my server can’t transcode fast enough for live or recorded TV with DVB subtitles.

Why do they claim “dvb_subtitles not supported in mpegts”? The release notes from ExoPlayer v2.4.0 say they do support them.

" * Support DVB subtitles in MPEG-TS and MKV."

So, DVB subtitles shouldn’t trigger transcode, can we have this fixed for Android?
