Server: Debian Linux 9.6, plexmediaserver_1.14.1.5488
DVR: HDHomeRun HDHR5-2DT (Australia version)
I’ve done a bit of searching in the forums on this, but I haven’t found anyone posting the specific issue I’m facing.
It seems subtitles on most Australian broadcasts are in “Teletext Subtitle” format. To show this, I extracted 30 seconds of TV (from channel #13, 10HD) wget http://hdhomerun:5004/auto/v13?duration=30
and ran it through mediainfo
. As well as the Video and Audio, mediainfo
shows the following stream:
Text
ID : 575 (0x23F)-801
Menu ID : 1572 (0x624)
Format : Teletext Subtitle
Language : English
However, when I record a show through Plex, or watch it live via the DVR, the subtitles are unavailable. mediainfo
shows no Text component in the .ts file saved for a recording.
The DVR setting “CONVERT VIDEO WHILE RECORDING” is set to “Off”, however I note that even though this is the case, I can see a Plex Transcoder process running when I watch live TV or record a broadcast. So it seems it is doing some transcoding, even if just a stream copy.
Tautulli says the following is happening:
STREAM Transcode (Speed: 1.2)
CONTAINER Transcode (MPEGTS MP4)
VIDEO Transcode (H264 1080p H264 1080p)
AUDIO Transcode (AC3 5.1 AAC Stereo)
SUBTITLE None
Does plex support “Teletext Subtitles” format for Closed Captioning?
