Subtitle halo effect

Hi,

Subtitles in Plex for LG C6 (WebOS) often misbehave:

  • Subtitles often render aliased, instead of smooth, like on many other Plex apps/devices.
  • Subtitles are incredibly bright white, creating a nasty halo effect that reduces legibility.
  • Custom Plex subtitle color settings are ignored.

The problem still happens on LG C6 (WebOS), with 4K videos.

In fact, no matter how I configure my Plex subtitles, they always render extremely bright, with a halo that severely impedes legibility.

And, the text renders in an aliased way, that looks surprisingly low resolution atop the video streams. The aliasing gets worse and worse as I adjust the stream resolution lower and lower. But even at original quality, subtitles still look very pixellated. Never had this problem with other Plex apps/devices, just with the Plex LG app.

Plex silently ignores my chosen subtitle color and continues to display subtitles as glaring white.

Plex silently ignores settings for subtitle placement (top vs middle vs bottom).

Plex silently ignores the configuration to Always burn in subtitles.

I’ve tinkered with all manner of Plex and LG settings. Nothing ever changes the behavior.

The problem happens with all my videos. With MKV SRT subtitle tracks various and sundry.
