I have a question about “select audio and subtitle tracks”,
Prefer audio tracks in (English)
Subtitle mode (Always Enabled)
Prefer subtitles in (English)
Why is no selection on “Prefer subtitles in” English(SDH). as we all know subtitle come in
English
English (Forced)
English (SDH)
Plex Server always select “English (forced)” not SDH. I have notice even if i use MKVtool to move the (SDH) to above (forced) it still select (forced). Why is this?
Regards to the audio, Some of my movies have 2 to 3 audio
TrueHD with Dolby Atmos 7.1 , DTS-HD MA 5.1 , and DDP 5.1. I have use MKVTools to set
DDP 5.1 (Default)
DTS-HD MA 5.1
TrueHD with Dolby Atmos 7.1
Why do plex select TrueHD with Dolby Atmos 7.1 even though i have put DDP 5.1 as default? can anyone advice me on this…
I’m curious about the subtitle bit myself. Personally, I prefer forced subs, or none at all. Since I enable “Shown with foreign audio only”, I only ever see subs if the track itself is marked as “Forced”, as I expected.
It looks to me that Plex only cares about two things in subtitle track metadata: language (to determine if it should play the file based on your language), and the forced track.
I would EXPECT that if you enable subtitles to “always” display, it ought to pick the first non-forced track. So, if you swapped the tracks around, how exactly did you do that, and what did you do afterwards? For example, when I add a subtitle track, Plex won’t even notice that it has the sub until I do an “Analyze” on the file after, so it will detect the internal changes to a file. Did you do that? Put the SDH track first, and analyze?
Good, was hoping for that answer, as I use mkvtoolnix exclusively and know it works well.
Make sure to analyze the file afterwards. Also keep in mind that Plex tends to be “sticky” on subtitles and audio tracks. Meaning that if you started a file with one track or sub, Plex will make sure that is what is selected when you resume/restart the file, for consistency. If you want to see if the behavior works properly, try a brand new file you haven’t ever played before to see whether Plex does play the first subtitle track as we expect. Or Plex dance the file.
