Summary Being Replaced with a non-related Summary

Server Version#: 1.11.0.1215-1d8c460c

I am adding many educational/documentary videos that are usually not matched in any external databases. So I manually add Tags and Summary information. In the last few weeks I have been updating and adding Tags and Summary information to videos that have been in my library. To my surprise, I am starting to see my summary information being replaced by a summary from a recent addition (Spy Kids). I have updated the files as I have found a better video converter, but I did not want to replace the Summary. I have looked for unmatched videos and show none. I then went into the video information and they are matched to something that I assume is created from my library. The tags do not seem to be altered.

How does the Summary be updated to something else when it is already present?

What is the content of the video’s guid="..." property in the Plex XML info?

Are you adding those videos into a separate library or are you using your regular ‘TV Shows’ library?

guid="com.plexapp.agents.none

All the videos are in a separate directory and library than my movies and TV shows. The library type is set to “Other Videos”.

Is the file a .mp4 container?

Have you inspected the embedded meta tags of it?
You can use the Windows file explorer ‘Properties’ tab or a specialized meta tag editor, like mp3tag

Yes, they are mp4s. I used Windows Properties and the only items that are media related are the Contributing artist, Year, and Genre. I did not see the summary stuff as part of the Properties so I assume it comes from somewhere else. Where does the summary information come from? I assume that there is some sort of database that contains this kind of information and might be the source the is replacing my summary. Can i access this database and look at it directly?

Please find the original item, for which you typed in this summary.
Determine its guid="... (find it in the Plex XML info )
Now find the guid of the other item, which has the copy of the description. Do they differ?

btw. you can write a description into the metadata of an mp4 file. Using mp3tag, you open the extended tag editor and add PODCASTDESC
There are a few other things you can embed.

I recommend you to embed as much metadata as possible, instead of typing in the metadata into Plex. That way they can survive a crash or re-creation of the server.

I think gregu206 describes a feature I’d also very much like.

I have a Plex library of type “TV Show” with agent “Personal Media Shows” named “Training”.
This looks for media in a directory (coincidentally) named “Training”.
The media is organised in directories very close to what is recommended in the Plex support article Naming Home Series Media.

/Training << A Plex library type "TV Show" with agent "Personal Media Shows"
   /CCNA 200-301
Summary.txt << preferred method for presenting a show summary in Plex app
CCNA 200-301.txt << or perhaps this method for presenting a show summary in Plex app
/CCNA 200-301 S01E001 Welcome and additional free resources- Packet Tracker Installation
         Document-Navigation-DJninjaNZ-course-note-v2.zip
CCNA 200-301 S01E001 Welcome and additional free resources- Packet Tracker Installation.mp4
         Document_Navigation_DJninjaNZ_course_note_v2.pdf
/CCNA 200-301 S01E002 Download and Install Packet Tracer
CCNA 200-301 S01E002 Download and Install Packet Tracer.mp4
      /CCNA 200-301 S01E003 Completed-Lab-Packet-Tracer-File
         Basic-complete.pkt
         CCNA 200-301 S01E003 Completed-Lab-Packet-Tracer-File.mp4
         Completed-Lab-Packet-Tracer-File.zip

I’d like Plex media server to present text in the local asset summary.txt file as the summary for this “TV Show” called “CCNA 200-301”.

If the feature I describe is different please ignore this post
if I’m so compelled I might search the forum or perhaps open a new feature request.
