Hi,
I have been experiencing several new issues with Plex on an Amazon Fire Stick since the major Plex server update earlier this summer; late July, I think. It was a major update the revamped the layout of the whole program. Some of these issues happen consistently, while others are intermittent. If anyone has any suggestions for these, I would love to hear them.
P.s. I did try turning everything off and on again. ha
1. Wrong Episode Highlighted After Selecting From Main Menu
When selecting an episode from the Plex main menu, Plex opens the show’s season/episode screen but highlights the wrong episode.
For example:
-
Select a specific episode from the main menu.
-
Plex opens the show’s season screen.
-
The selection box is positioned on a different episode instead of the episode that was originally selected.
2. Episodes Frequently Freeze Around the 4–6 Minute Mark
TV episodes frequently freeze approximately 4–6 minutes into playback.
When this happens, playback does not recover on its own. The current workaround is:
-
Stop playback.
-
Return to the episode screen.
-
Resume the episode.
After resuming, the episode will normally continue playing.
3. Auto-Play Works Inconsistently
The “Auto Play Next Episode” feature does not behave consistently.
Sometimes Plex automatically starts the next episode according to my Auto-Play settings, and other times it does not.
This can happen even when I have recently been actively using the Plex app and remote, so it does not appear to be caused solely by inactivity.
4. “Skip Credits” Appears Inconsistently
The “Skip Credits” button does not consistently appear.
An episode may offer the option during one viewing but not during another. I have also seen this happen with shows and episodes that I have watched previously where the Skip Credits feature had worked correctly.
5. Library Position Resets When Scrolling Up
While browsing a large library, scrolling upward can cause Plex to suddenly reset the browsing position back to the beginning of the library.
I have primarily noticed this while scrolling upward. Scrolling downward does not appear to trigger the same behavior.
6. Incorrect Selection After an Episode Finishes
After an episode finishes and Plex displays the On Deck / next episode screen, the selection box does not consistently highlight the expected next episode.
Sometimes:
-
The episode that just finished is highlighted.
-
Nothing appears to be highlighted.
-
The expected next episode is not automatically selected.
7. Continue Watching Sometimes Opens the Wrong Episode
When selecting a TV episode from the Continue Watching section, Plex will occasionally select or open a different episode from the same season.
The episode displayed in Continue Watching is not always the episode that Plex actually selects once the show’s season screen opens.
8. Selection Box Moves Back on Its Own
While navigating through Plex, the selection box will occasionally move back to its previous position immediately after I move it.
For example:

Press right, left, up, or down on the remote.
-
The selection moves correctly.
-
Plex immediately moves the selection back to where it was previously.
This makes menu navigation unpredictable.
9. Movie Library Occasionally Opens With an Unknown Filter Applied
Sometimes when opening the Movie Library, Plex appears to automatically apply a filter that I did not select.
Instead of displaying the entire movie library, only a small number of movies are shown.
I have to manually open the filtering options and clear the active filter before the full library becomes visible again.
10. Problems After Plex Remains Open While the TV/Device Is Not in Use
Plex appears to remain active in the background when the TV or Fire Stick is not being used or the TV has been turned off.
When returning to Plex later, the interface can behave erratically. I have seen:

The selection box rapidly move or “bounce” around the screen.

Plex appear to be trying to restore the previous menu position.

Audio from media begin playing while the interface is still displaying a menu instead of the playback screen.
Closing/restarting Plex generally resolves the abnormal behavior temporarily.
11. Alphabet Scroller Jumps to the Top
When browsing a library and moving from the movie/show list over to the alphabet scroller, Plex does not always select the letter corresponding to my current location in the library.
Instead, it will sometimes automatically jump to the top of the alphabet.
For example, if I am currently browsing titles beginning with “S” and move over to the alphabet navigation bar, I would expect the selection to land around “S” from the old versions. Instead, it may jump back to the beginning of the alphabet.
12. Fast-Forward Timeline Preview Was Removed
This is more of a feature/usability issue than a bug.
Previously, fast-forwarding or seeking through a video displayed a preview image showing approximately where playback would resume.
The current interface no longer displays this preview window. As a result, seeking through a movie or episode requires guessing where playback will land based only on the timeline.
I would strongly prefer to see the preview window restored, particularly for longer movies or when trying to locate a specific scene.
13. Using a VPN Disables Remote Access and Requires Manual Re-Enablement
Using a VPN, even briefly, appears to disable Plex Remote Access.
This happens even if the VPN is only active temporarily. After disconnecting from the VPN and returning to my normal network connection, Plex Remote Access does not automatically restore itself.
To restore remote viewing, I have to:

Open the Plex Media Server settings.

Navigate to Remote Access.

Manually enable Remote Access again.
If I do not manually re-enable it, I am unable to access my Plex server remotely.
The expected behavior would be for Remote Access to recover automatically after the VPN is disconnected and the server returns to its normal network connection, rather than permanently remaining disabled until manually re-enabled.
