Right now only Intel Quick Sync is supported for HEVC decoding on PMS. It would love to see the following features added because it looks like 4K HDR (10bit) content is going to be mainstream at some point.
- Ability to use supported AMD/Nvidia GPU’s to decode 4K HEVC 10-bit files
- Ability to pass along HDR data in a transcode
- Add an additional PMS transcode setting where you can enable hardware transcoding ONLY for HEVC files (all other files default to software transcoding). I find hardware transcoding is not great for H264 content and I am already able to stream multiple H264 files with ease anyway. HEVC is the issue because even my 8-core Ryzen can barely stream one file, so it needs to be transcoded via hardware.
