Support for audiobooks

My son and I both put in big votes for remembering the position left off in an album.

+1

Audiobook support would be awesome.

You can currently remember track position of a music folder. To enable this in the music library that you would like position kept edit the library and go to the advanced tab. Check ā€œStore Check Progressā€ and Save.

Just a reminder to everyone if you would like to +1 a feature you need to ā€œlikeā€ the first post of the discussion

But if you finish the track… Plex doesn’t remember which track is next. Hence their request to remember the position in an album as opposed to remembering the position in a track. And I believe the track still marks itself as complete once you hit 90% of the way. Which can be frustrating if you want Plex to remember where you left off in a track you almost finished. For these two reasons I still cannot use Plex for audiobooks. Remembering track position is a good start. But it’s not enough.

Ah my bad I misunderstood the request yes that is annoying and is part of the larger post I made earlier in the thread.

I am currently in the process of joining all my books into one file so I don’t have to worry about it but I have a lot of books to get through

No worries. I just read your previous post and realized that you’ve already put in a lot more thought about this than I have. I had initially just assumed that you didn’t realize the distinction.

Haha I really like Audiobooks and really look forward to seeing plex work it in and have it be as awesome as TV and movies within plex.

Modified my earlier post of features to include

Go to Position I increasingly find the need to be able to input directly the track position.

Larger Skip Sizes Along with go to position it would be nice to skip larger gaps 60 seconds or 300 seconds.

Improved position text On Android the text for the current position gets cut off. Currently I only see hh:m. Would be nice to see the full position hh:mm:ss

+1 not something I’ve incorporated into my media library, but probably in the near future. If Plex added it, I’d probably be more enticed to start up that project.

yes yes yes

I’m having issues on iOS. Any suggestions? I started an audiobook, but when I try to play it again in the iOS app it starts over, but when I try on the Web App it starts right where I left off. Help!

Are you continuing play by selecting the track you were listening to or
pressing play on the album?

I had the same ā€œIssueā€. But I figured out that I was directly playing the ā€œalbumā€ and not the ā€œtrackā€ in the album. So please try it again, go into the album and press directly on the track. Then it should work.

just sad how the ā€œgodsā€ seem to play their own game. there a lot of things that really are essential and need to be adressed - just like an audiobook library or stream quality for remote music. instead of focussing on essentials, it seems the new goals are new, non-essential features at all costs (news, alexa, cloud, pvr). i like the ideas, but please, stop this gimmickry until really wanted features are implemented. sorry, had to let of some steam.

Ooh Audiobook handling would be great. Love to listen to them in the car and hate the app I use currently for it (not at all straightforward to load media onto).

I definitely understand your frustration. There is this entire portion of the site dedicated to discussing what the user base wants in regards to future features. However based purely on title of the request only 1 of the features you talked about are on the list of top requested, Cloud support. The Watchup acquisition (News) and DVR could be tied to the Live TV Support request. Alexa has never been on the top requested list.

I cannot speak as to how Plex picks what features to work on but I do know that the alexa skill started as a user creating it himself you can find the post in the forums. Plex reached out to him and went that route.

It is definitely frustrating to have the ability to voice a request on the forums and see how many people would like it but not know if the developers are working on it. But how many other companies are public about their feature road map?

i know it is non-transparent what the developers are working on, sad but true. i just think before adding new nice to have features (i will use for sure), some basic features should be added.
plex wants to be no1 if it comes to media library, therefore media should be handled like no one does. my concern is that those fancy new ā€œfeaturesā€ will make plex neither the no1 media handler nor a no1 alexa-powered-egg-laying wool-milk-sow. sure, we got to go forward, as i said i like the ideas and will love the news thing, but please don’t forget where plex is coming from and that media is the base for people using plex.
if the media handling will be unattended and the users will find better apps which haven’t lost focus on user and their demands, some will go and less will subscribe.

i don’t get it anyway, why do people want cloud support? i love to have my media at my place, nas, a vpn and i can (really) securely access my media from anywhere without letting abc, jeff oder donald know which mexican music i am listening to.
Or alexa, i dont get the whole thing. i don’t need suggestions for red pants after listening to a song called ā€œblue pantsā€. don’t get me wrong, some want it, and the new magic word ā€œcomputerā€ almost got me to buy one, but…jump to the top of the post

sorry for the long post, heres an audiobook for you library. oh, wait…

Add this feature for the love of the love :frowning:

audiobooks section will be great

What are people currently using to handle audiobooks since Plex support is lacking?
