Jellyfin is simply an Emby fork that came about after Emby closed some of their source code (to protect financial investment).
I wouldn’t imagine Jellyfin even being as far along to implementing audiobooks as Emby is, given that whatever little work Emby has done in that direction took place after the fork occurred.
I still say using Musicbrainz as an agent is a better long-term solution than using Audible as one, given that Audible sometimes removes entries from its database when an audiobook is no longer sold there.
+1 so hard for Plex supporting audio book libraries native and with full meta/sorting/etc.
I started my home media library life ages ago using a Windows Subsonic server with the app DSUB on my android, which did (and still does) an amazing job of managing and playing my music, movies, shows and audio books. Now I use PLEX for everything… except the damn audio books. Subsonic has amazing support for audio books - change play speed, remember location even if you go away to another book/movie/song and come back to the book, reasonably proper support of meta data, etc. So I have to keep my Subsonic server limping along solely so that I can have easy, intuitive audio book access on the road.
PLEX does everything seamlessly except audio books, and what’s so incredibly frustrating is that A: the functionality is clearly already 90% there in the other library types and B: This has been a high-demand feature request since at least 2013 - there are heavily voted/commented posts about audio book support from ages ago!
Can someone from PLEX support please chime in here and explain why this hasn’t been added as a stand-alone library type? I’ve pulled 3 of my friends over to lifetime PLEX passes. I will continue to shout your praises… but PLEX would be virtually perfect if it supported audio books.
People of PLEX! Please let us know why it’s not happening!!
+1 my dude, I’m really unhappy that I have to deal with Tidal and other crap and still they aren’t listening to the community for core features like support for audiobooks.
Native audiobook support would be awesome. I’d love native ebook support too but ill hold my breath on that one and settle for the audiobook side of it alone.
The problem is neither of those services provide legitimate API endpoints for queries - any 3rd party agents just scrape the sites which is pretty explicitly against their TOS
+1 for audiobooks for me as well! I use audiobooks a lot and like the app I have, however, it doesn’t have streaming capabilities, which is a problem because my phone space is limited. I would love to see plex add this feature. It’s almost usable for audiobooks now, but it needs to keep track of where the track left off and have a better way to store metadata for it to be great!
+1 I have bought a lot of audiobooks on Humble Bundle and would love to organize and use them through Plex. Of course I’d need chapter navigation and remembering where I last was across devices. Kinda like the way TV Episodes work right now.
Setting up my audiobooks in plex works as a music library but still has a serious flaw. The play position doesn’t work toward the end of the file (it assumes you’re done listening). An agent to scrape meta data would also be appreciated.
Until Plex get’s its act together, i would recommend going to Booksonic.org. This uses subsonic and dsub code to make this a good alternative for audiobooks. the dev is very responsive with issues. the app is 3$ on Google Play and is worth it. Check it out people.
