One more vote for audiobook support!
823 votes for audio book support and crickets. People have been asking for this for over six years. PLEX? What is the point of us voting for things?
Agreed, it would be fantastic if was able to sync as well. Listen at home on Computer/Tablet and carry on with phone at lunch
I know for a fact that the developer of the Prologue audiobook app for PLEX is working on that as his next enhancement.
Iâm really surprised by this, and that shared playlists are still not a thing.
100% agree. I heard JellyFin has it already, that and eBook/Comic Book support.
Looks like it is iPhone only right now but that is exactly what Iâm looking for.
Jellyfin does not have native support for audiobooks. Jellyfin server has a Mopidy plugin, and Mopidy apparently has audiobook support. I have no idea how well Mopidy works for audiobooks though.
Oh, then that is what they have. I know there are some plugins for Plex that still work for Audiobooks but I havenât tried them yet.
Anyone know if Emby has audiobook support?
Emby has an âAudio bookâ library type, which works with single-file audiobooks. Track-split audiobooks donât work well though to play them in-app.
On the other hand, Emby does have inline collections for Audiobooks (which Plex does not have); and using Emby to sync/download audiobooks to a device and then pointing an external audiobook app (like Voice Audiobook Player, Smart Audiobook Player, or Sirin) to the synced folder(s) works quite well for even track-split audiobooks. Thatâs what I do.
Just make sure, if you do use Emby to sync audiobooks and another app to play themâmake sure you have cover art embedded in one of the files. Emby doesnât download the album art file (ie. folder.jpg) to the synced folder, but it does keep the embedded art. If you have album art embedded in your files, the external app will automatically use it.
I just bought Prologue App because Plex don´t offer choice. Oh well, maybe someday I can use âjust oneâ software to use and manage all my media libraries.
Until then IMO Plex lose money everyday without audiobook support.
Ps. Lifetime pass is just for CURRENT features. Plex should Just change EULA and that´s it!
$5 extra payment to everyone to use AudioBook or make two different choice free / pay.
Case closed and rock rock
+1
Itâs amazing that this thread has been going since 2013 and audiobooks are still not fixed. I got forced into plex for my audiobooks when Catalina broke apples Books for me. No option for external storage of books. Oh well I thought⌠Plex can do that and away I went, but what a disappointment. This seems to be such a simple problem to fix but if they have danced around it for 5+ years I think it may never come. Very frustrating
I feel that itâs really just a complete disregard for their Lifetime Plex Pass base. So many people in this thread have Lifetime Plex Passes and the fact that this issue is being ignored with the exception of the occasional post by Plex in the thread that theyâre âlooking in to itâ while theyâre publishing entire new suites of content deployment⌠and itâs been (as the previous poster said) literally YEARS⌠come on Plex. Make a few hundred vocal, loyal customers (who likely represent thousands) happy and give us Audio Book support. Or try and explain to us (Iâd love to hear that story) why itâs difficult to implement. FYI itâs not. I was in the industry for almost 10 years, I know how this stuff works.
And please no replies about âuse thisâ or âuse thatâ. I want to use PLEX for F*#$'s sake!
Angry Me~
Okay, I want Audiobook support as well, but PLEX is a business and trying to work through a model that makes them profitable.
We need to keep requesting it, but not spread discord. I have been using PLEX continuously for 5 years. Before that I used it sporadically.
Look to the future, but lets be appreciative of the great work they are doing.
Wow! Best advise given throughout this who post! Thanks for the heads up. Pretty much solves most of the issues and I donât have to fart around with weird installs or looking at other media servers that donât look half as good as plex even with their audiobook letdowns⌠Thanks a lot. Bought the app immediately and moving on with my life
Nickewi, no one is spreading discord [Discord: Disagreement between people - who is disagreeing?].
I have no interest in hijacking this thread to get into an argument (that would be discord), so feel free to PM me if youâd like to discuss this at any length. However, I feel that I am entitled to reply to your statement.
PLEX has been essentially ignoring this feature request for 8 years. Itâs disrespectful to the many, many end users who are having to keep old platforms alive or spend money and/or resources elsewhere for a second library function that PLEX could give us relatively easily. And for anyone (sorry, PLEX reps included) to suggest that it wouldnât be relatively easy is just disingenuous. That would certainly seem to suggest that they just donât care enough about their hundreds or thousands of audio book users to give us what we have been asking for - I repeat - for at least 8 years.
Iâm sorry if you donât agree, but lots of people in this thread have been waiting a long, long time. I think weâve looked to the future long enough, PLEX needs to deliver.
Disappointed Me~
My Point is that this is a business. Most of us do not pay monthly fees. we have lifetime subscriptions.
Personally I would pay an Lifetime add on fee to have the Audiobooks.
Again, PLEX is a business.
As would I.
Technically Plex can play audiobooks now. I have a large library of them and they can be played.
What we need to list out is the specific support features that are missing or require third party support currently
- Metadata agents that can grab data from sources like GoodReads, Audible etc
- New library type to allow for poster sizes that are not the Music square size like old CD covers, but more like Movies in the format of Book Covers.
- Sort Authors by Last Name not First
- A player with a sleep timer maybe
What else?
+1 on this. Would greatly appreciate Plex adding support for .m4b audibooks. I donât need metadata, covers, any of that, I just need proper chapter support.
In fact, I used to rely on Plex a while ago. Addition of audiobook support would convince me to get a lifetime subscription in a heartbeat.
