correctlyremember playback position. To the last chapter in .m4b will do
Ability to have sub folders e.g. artist, series then album. A modification of collections feature could work. This would be a massive help for audio dramas from the likes of big finish who have a massive range. So you could have Doctor Who: 08, Dark Eyes, Series 01 for example.
If they do change album art format as you suggest then this MUST be optional. Not all art is going to fit in to the TV/Film cover format and is actually designed for the CD covers.
smart playlists that can be used to sync tracks on and off of your device as you listen to them (like you can do with TV series)
A option to change when a track is automatically marked played. Right now, it will mark a 20 hour book as played even though I still have an hour left.
Those are the three big things that would make it so much nicer.
I also know several people that use plex without a plexpass. Several of them would subscribe if it meant they could have easier audiobook support. Hell, Iād probably buy a pass for my dad if they released actual audiobook support.
With remembering position in tracks having an indication as to where you are in each album in the interface would help just like in TV/Films libraries.
Most of the features that would need to be implemented are already there in TV / Films libraries. Just port these features to the music library. All thatās uniquie is proper chapter support for .m4b and and a accurate way of marking as played
Smart Audiobook player for android is the best book app by farā¦
the best Functions Areāand that should be added to plex
speed up /slow down audioā¦
Live EQ to add bass or treble to the readers Voice
auto rewind 5sec when reopening the book
skip back / ahead 5sec 5min 10min
If there is not a folder.jpg file for a book, Smart Audiobook Player does not display any art for an individual file that doesnāt have art embedded. So, if only Chapter 1 has embedded art, all other chapters show no art at all when playing them.
Book and author fields show folder names, not ID3 tags.
Switching to Library view pauses the current book.
This has been going on for seven years. SEVEN. YEARS. If anyone from PLEX reads this stuff, can you at least tell us to forget this or is there any chance this is on some mystical hidden secret product roadmap? ALL it would take is the ability to remember where you are in an audio book that is made up of multiple files. Set it up like Other Video libraries, except Other Audio. That way it wonāt bother trying to track down the cover art or any of that nice stuff. Just give us author (pull it from artist or album artist) and title (pull it from album). How #*$&% hard would that be?
So. Seven years. Say something.
Yeah I agree, weāve been asking for audiobook support for years, always with a vague statement from the Plex Devs if they decide to respond, āweāre working on itā or āitās on the road mapā.
And now we get plexamp, and still no audiobook supportā¦
You have all for synchronize audiobook, offline mode, etc but itās unusable because you cannot save the position, because Plex forget the essential thing ! So for Audiobook itās necessary to use an other software
So why donāt they add that essential thing?
Please, donāt tell us that 1) itās too complicated 2) they know better - because weāve been over this in this thread couple of times already.
They donāt see it as a revenue generator. Audible.com is out there for people who want to stream audio books. I think plex started as a way for people to stream content they personally had but that market is getting smaller every day. I have terabytes of stuff. My 30 year old son has none. most of my co-workers have none. The idea of ācuratingā content is too much work for them. If they want a movie, they stream it. If they want music, they stream it. Plex has to generate revenue in that landscape and people like us wonāt keep them in business. It may have 5 years ago, but not now. Now they need to provide a service for people who want to stream so they are focusing on that (I assume) where they can get ad revenue from the streaming media.
After searching for an alternative for audiobooks for the 1000th time last night I actually came across something pretty neat for Android users. Both server and app are open source. Itās not as fancy as Plex but it will do the job just fine for streaming.
For the server it uses docker, the setup really couldnāt have been made any easier, itās super simple.
The app is simple to use and seems to work pretty smooth so far, Iām loving it.
Keep in mind, Iāve only been using it for about a day so there might be drawbacks I havenāt found yet but so far, this looks like what Iāve been looking for in the streaming department at least.
Quick note for the server setup, even for local use donāt use --no-authentication and make sure to set a shared key or else it wonāt work with the Android client.
That looks promising. As far as I can tell from the documentation the biggest drawback for me is the lack of support for Android Auto (and that the dev stated that he doesnāt care enough about it to add it). I mostly listen to Audiobooks while driving so that may be a deal breaker for me. Still, Iāll probably give this one a try.
