This is my top want! Please make it happen!!
Narrowed down my wishlist now to m4b chapter support and better resume support even the last chapter will do.
After spending a while sorting through my library Iāve managed to organise it better using the below. While a dedicated library layout using series, seasons and collections like TV shows would be my ultimate wish I highly doubt itāll ever happen.
artist = range
Style = character
Mood = villain
Collection = connected stories
Review= description
Rating = (blank = unplayed)
Ok so an update for anyone still interested in Audiobook support via Plex.
With the latest update to PMS (version 1.21.2.3918). Firstly, the devs updated the āplayed progress point for podcasts/audiobooks to 99%ā. I havenāt tested this as of yet but it was in the release notes for this update (see below for full release notes). Secondly, store track progress is much better with added support for track history and recently played so you donāt lose your place as much. (Sadly the resume from pressing play on the āalbumā aka book still hasnāt been implemented). The PlexAmp app is a god send with a feature to see recently played tracks within the appās home screen! Thirdly, managing metadata and having local metadata (id3 tags) being prioritized is much easier in the advanced settings for the Music Library (Prefer Local Metadata option, Album Art: Local Files Only option, and Genres: Embedded Tags option.
It is getting better guys! Just have patience!

have i to tag every album in plex or how it works? i dont see an option to set the library to audiobook. if it involves the genre tags it should also recognise the german word āhƶrbuchā
Edit the Library with your Audiobooks, go to Advanced, turn on Store Track Progress.
āChanged played progress point for podcasts/audiobooks to 99%, other audio content to 50%ā
i have that on, but how does plex know that it is my audiobook library? and is this going for full books or only single tracks?
how is this working?
on ios apps on album view there should be indicator which tracks are unplayed and a option to resume playback. and for book list there should be the same indicator sign for unplayed items as for movies
The only thing this changes is the point at which a single track is considered played. Plex doesnāt keep anything like an On Deck for an album so if you stop in the middle of a track, you need to remember what track you last played.
It will do this for any tracks that use the store progress (something you likely wouldnāt turn on for an audiobook library).
If I use the Plex app to listen to audiobooks on mobile, I take a screenshot to help me remember what track I was on.
Although thatās not necessary if you use Chronicle (for Android), or Prologue (for iOS) instead.
Hi Plex Team. How about implementing real features requested by users years ago? The code is already there. Your policy of adding features of no value but ignoring the request of beneficial simple changes of your loyal customers leaves me absolutely speechless. You are not listening to our customers anymore. As you are not in terms of āno transcodingā. Pending since years!
+1 - come on guys 101 media requirement
Yet another pointless feature added, with a separate sub, but no meaningful progress on highly requested features that people have been wai5 years for
+1 friends. Hey Plex! Do something please with real audiobook support in Plex server.
Like Robin1, by using the workaround described here (which relies on MP3Tag and an alternative Audiobook Agent) and the Prologue iOS app Iāve been able to have a decent experience listening to audiobooks. However, it still seems ridiculous to me that Plex hasnāt made efforts to better handle audiobooks, such as creating an audiobook-specific library category, after 8 years of people asking for this feature.
rightā¦
Yes please!
+1. Would love a proper plex audiobook feature.
While I do use plex for my audiobooks it is such a pain to manage⦠and like everyone else tired of having to remember what chapter Iām at. I also have constant issues with restarting sometimes where the time is marked but upon resuming restarts from the beginning⦠so frustrating!!!
Nearly 800 answers on that topic arenāt enough for plex to do something the community wishes for. Itās quite a shame.
I bet if a topic on jellyfin would have 800 answers it would be solved/implemented asap! Thatās the way plex worked earlier in the days, then they started to focus on whatever and added quite a sh*tload of free content no one needed.
Do something for your users, Plexteam!
We did get the arcade feature though, I wonder how many people were hanging out for that āfeatureā.
I havenāt tried the arcade feature yet, Iām not sure how many of my users are going to want to pay for it too, so I have just kept using my emulator box.
However all of my users use my current audiobook Library, but only a few of them have found a good solution to listening to them in a fully-featured audiobook player. Itās a real shame that after almost literally 800 replies about this feature that we all want, they still wonāt even give a reason as to why they wonāt do this.
Agreed. Plex so desperately needs and would benefit from proper audiobook support⦠and itās actively painful that itās not there, because itās already so close.
Just proper position tracking in long files and better m4b index support, plus a simple āaudiobookā library type that worked like music and used author instead of album artist, reader instead of track artist, and book instead of album.
Itās much, much easier to implement than the arcade game thing, or another round of webtv. And yet thereās still no word.
But hey - the āPlexcerpts is baaaaaaaack!ā - whatever the f***k it isā¦
