Support for audiobooks

does them well*.

Plex puts a lot of money into marketing. They sponsor Youtubers to talk about them and keep them the most visible in the media server space, so I don’t really know about that. But that being said, Emby and Jellyfin are the closest comparisons to Plex and neither of them has a better implementation for audiobooks than Plex does.

The reality is that, without Audiobookshelf, the best solution would still be to use Plex as a backend to Prologue, Bookcamp, or Chronicle.

I use Prologue. Works great. Although I have tested PLEX AMP again and it has gotten better, but I am happy with Prologue.

Pls add in the ability to read and visualize audio chapters from both mp3 and m4b files.

The ability to auto-name chapters would be useful too.

I am surprised that this functionality has not been already added in.

This is one of my biggest use cases and is make or break for me if I use any media organizer.

I am a disabled man who enjoys the Plex Media Server and have been cobbling some Audiobooks to play through Google. The Plex platform is such a perfect place for this and would love to beta test anything like what I see on this Git Hub page. Please, Please, Please add Audiobook support at least.

A number of Tech influencers have stopped taking Plex sponsorships on their YouTube videos until Plex lift its game in terms of delivering better core features rather than fripperies

That’s good news. They stand on business. From the sounds of it, they too may have seen and been personally affected by their own home usage of the new Plex UI experience. Plex has a lot of catching up to do before they can be taken seriously again.

Hello, it would be great if Plex could keep track of my progress in an audiobook, which has individual files for each chapter. it can keep track within each chapter (which also means that it does the same for music files) but it cant remember which chapter i was on and neither can I!

I use Plexamp for listening to my audiobooks. What works for me is making sure your audiobook library is NOT checked for Store Track Progress. Then it should record a play for each chapter in your history. It will then show up in your history so you will know the last one you played.

In general Plexamp will keep your same position if you listened to any file and paused it, closed out the app, and returned to it later. If you start another book while you were in the middle of another one it will not remember your place because you don’t have Store track Progress checked.

I unchecked it because it wouldn’t keep track of track plays reliably. Plexamp was made for music, but it works reasonably well for audiobooks no matter what others may say.

That works hit or miss for me. Prologue Usually works for me unless I mess something up.

I dont have iOS devices and the other android apps don’t work as well as Plexamp does currently.

At this point, Im waiting for the first competitor to pull a decent audiobook + movie/series support and Im cancelling my Plex account. 12 years of stalling doesn’t deserve my money.

You better act fast Plex, cause Im not the only one waiting for that.

If you have been paying for 12 years? that’s nuts. Should have gotten a Plex Pass years ago. I want a better interface on Audiobooks, but hey you cannot have everything.

I’m sure others have mentioned it…if you have an Apple device download Prologue app and pay the few dollars. Best app for audiobooks and works with your Plex content seamlessly. Developer does a good job with bugs and adding new features.

I do have Prologue and love it, but it does glitch sometimes on the connections to PLEX and losing where I am on the audiobook. Totally random. I will say that Plex Amp is improving, but I prefer Prologue. Would Love PlexAmp to surpass it!

I had that same problem and I found it related to an issue with the audio files themselves. I use mp3 files broken into several files per book.

Are you using m4b files by chance?

I use what i can get.

I will have to look at the ones I have had issues with to see what types they are.

it would really be great if Plex would add Audiobooks and chapter recognition in Plexamp, it works quite well but could be better.

FULL support for our own purchased and owned Audiobooks would be much appreciated.

Audiobookshelf that I am already running is NOT very stable and I have to reboot it about once a day or it stops accepting my connections.

Thanks

Bret

This would be amazing. There are plugins but a default option is best
