I get the feeling that the new Plex API is spurring development around this from 3rd parties, the way the API supports markers and whatnot.
Are you running Audiobookshelf in Docker? I had the same issues. Got it resolved once I switched network mode from ābridgedā to āhostā. Seems there are problems with the socket connection when using NAT.
+1000 for better audiobook support.
- m4b support so i can maintain a single file per book with plex appropriately reading metadata. otherwise iām having to slap together a solution which scans the file for identifying words like āchapter 1ā and script in python to split the tracks using ffmpeg. !GROSS!
- remember where i paused a track
- separate library type
audiobook chapter support would be great. playback speed got added to plexamp already, as well as skips of +/- 30s, but chapters are missing.
Hi
I wonder if someone with audiobooks on your server would be interested to help test my new audiobook app. IOS or Android, both welcome.
Also wonder if someone that uses a screenreader would be interested to be part of the testing to se if the app works for you.
If someone is interested pleas send me a message.
Regards
Magnus
I have seen a lot of requests for a Library Type for AudioBooks but not much in the way of providing support for it. I drive a lot for work and after some time on the road (hours of open road) listening to music on PlexAmp becomes mundane (not because of PlexAmp, I love it actually) and I end up loading some audiobooks on to my phone, but not before leaving home. Rather than guessing what I may be in the mood for, it would be great if I could stream my AudioBooks from an AudioBooks library on my Plex.
Sure I can create a Music library called AudioBooks but still Plex recognizes it as Music, not AudioBooks. Stephen King and Isaac Asimov cannot possibly be in the same category as Music, but itās the closest library type.
I have seen quite a few posts and feature requests but still no movement on this. I would like and hope to see Plex properly support AudioBooks.
Thanks.
Audiobook support please!
I kinda mucked around and reconfigured ALL of my AB tags so that plex handles it as a separate Music library. Mp3Tag is a great tool!
I just tried to play an xhe-aac audiobook file on my Plex server, and the playback bounces. I guess they donāt support that codec? Add that to the list I guess.
Another vote for Prologue, it works great! Remembers where you left off (assuming you have your library setup as required), chapters, album art, etc. I have had zero issues/glitches/etc.
I would like a spin off from Plexamp to plexbook too. Although I can listen to audiobooks on Plexamp that suddenly means I canāt listen to music or I will loose my place in the book.
If it was simply the exact same features as Plex amp it would already be a massive improvement with the only real cost being an extra app on play/app store, Iām more than fine it being a Plex pass feature, after all Plex amp already is that. Personally I listen to audiobooks several hours a day,
I have all my audiobooks backed up onto my Plex server, yet because of the above issues with continuing playback on the same place it is beyond frustrating to use this as a tool at this time because as soon as Iām in the car with my wife I have to change to music instead of a book.
We absolutely cannot rely on Plex, Inc. to implement what we need. As long as the corporate execs allow the API to be used by third-party app devs, Iām all for others solving the app problem. All Plex has to focus on is fixing their DB architecture that their ecosystem is built on and finally get out of designing their own apps, because they are doing themselves a disservice.
There is now a growing list of home-grown app devs who are proving that it takes less time for a singular app dev who just wantās recognition and a $10 cup of coffee donation every once in a while, to show that a better UX UI is imminent.
It has been about 15 years. when should we expect some progress on this? Humm?
Plex has a problem when Lon Seidman āvibe codedā apps that are more functional made with Google Gemini and Claude LLMās than the very own UI UX efforts that are made by the in-house Plex design team. As I said above in my previous comment, I think Plex Inc. should just focus more on building out their API that can make better third-party apps that make Plex work with Home Automation, streaming and speaker systems like Wiim. Plex Inc. keeps saying they are limited on what their system is capable of doing but if thatās the case, why has Spotify expanded into providing music, music videos, podcasts, and audiobooks while Plex has only music, tv shows and movies? It is pathetic and sad that Lon Seidman has apps that compliment Plex, but Plex failed to implement these features within their own Plex ecosystem that creates user VALUE. Instead, Plex has historically gutted features like Watch Together, Podcasts, Plugins, CloudSync, Plex Cloud⦠etc.
