of what I understood, it’s not possible to bring support for x265 & subtitles on the current Plex application (because M$ does not provide APIs for it). It’s only possible with universal apps (UWP) (but apparently snap feature is not yet supported with universal apps…). It’s always the same f?ç%&*"story with M$…they are not able to do things the right way!
But I would prefer to loose the snap feature for some months and have support for x265 & subtitles.

They are doing away with the snap feature. They will be slowly bringing out more of picture and picture, but snap is being fazed out.
I’m sorry to bring this up from february, but I’d like to know if there are any news on the Plex UWP app.
I’m a huge Plex fan, and I’ve been a Pass member for months, but the situation on the Xbox One is not the best right now, so that I started using the VLC app instead. It is just faster and provides subtitles with no transcoding.
I hope the team is working on the UWP, I miss the experience that only Plex can provide.

No news whatsoever. The only thing we know is that they’re “working on an update”. We don’t know when it might come out, and we don’t know if it’s an UWP app or just an update to the old platform.
Thankfully, Kodi is working on an X0 app as well. Can’t wait for that so I can dump Plex altogether.

I’d like to know as well when the Xbox app will be updated to the UWP version. The Xbox app is sore lacking in features and has not had a real update in a long time. It doesn’t even automatically play the next episode in a season of a TV series like the other versions do.
Not to burst anyone’s bubble or anything, but has anyone looked in the windows forum lately? the top thread there at the moment is wondering if support for the UWP app has been abandoned
While I agree anything would be nice in terms of an update, let’s not fool ourselves into thinking the UWP app is going to fix everything, in fact it may also cause quite a few new issues
We may be tackling it from different perspectives, but as much as sometimes I hate it (the household ends up watching full seasons and doing nothing else, through sheer laziness :D) - in the Xbox one app you can play a season automatically, I believe you just play from the primary show screen where the seasons are listed, rather than entering the season, picking an episode and asking it to ‘play all from here’. It means you start at episode 1 each time you do it, but it does autoplay (just not nicely).

Awesome. VLC UWP app has been serving me well for the time being.
As for xbox snap gone and overlay (PiP) on the way. I don’t see any evidence that MS will bring in PiP. They removed snap and didn’t replace it.

Agreed on PiP. I know there were rumors it’s coming, but the reality is that once Snap and Preview were removed, the Xbox UI suddenly become a lot more snappy. It’s clear they were trying to do too much with the hardware with the original vision of the Xbox UI.
It’s hard for me to see them adding features that would make the UI return to that sluggish state.
