Hi,
i have a proper Linux host that runs Home Plex server with 10Tb media on it. I also have 2 Shield TV devices that were used mostly as players to show media from the Plex on Linux box.
So, i got homerun connect device, activated DVR, all works but going into Shield TV Plex player i found no Live TV option. Frustrated, i started googling and found out i need to activate Plex server on the Shield TV, map DVR device into it and then it will let me stream live TV. I did it, and it works, but i have now to switch from server with media onto Plex server on Shield if i want to watch TV program.
What is the reason of this non-sense? What it is a server on an Android Shield TV device can do my 8 core 4.2Ghz CentOs box cannot?
Is there any plan to allow Plex on Linux to do same that server on Shield is doing?
Some additional googling provided me with a plugin HDHR Viewer 2 (1.0.2) that makes the original question even more puzzling - what is the deal and why it is not working as an out of the box function? It is nice now to have it as a channel, but, i really do not get it, what was the issue and why Linux server can to DVR fine but cannot live stream from a box with 2 tuners in it.
Duh! Latest 1.5 as it was on it forever. Just checked and i see now there is newer 1.7.x distro for CentOs. Unbelievable. I simply presumed it is auto-updating to last one and did not pay any attention as i was dropping in newer RPMs.
I would believe as @rsava mentioned if you are running version 1.7.3 on your CentOS server you should be able to connect from your Shield TV to your primary server and view Live TV. You shouldn’t have to configure the DVR on each Shield TV device.
