Hi. I read the topic about moving an install to a new system. It was a bit over my head tbh. I did the basics which was uncheck that box on the mac side that revolved around emptying trash automatically. Then i closed out of the server on the mac, and loaded all my content to the new PC. The files from the old mac drive will not be used in my new setup, i copied them over to my PC hard drive.
So, i figured i could just log in, download the app from plex, and let it pickup all the media…Well, not so fast. it shows that i created a second server (both the same name, but one with capital letters on the first letter). Also, it says there was an unexpected error loading the library - go to forums.
So what is my next step to fix this? i’d like to just move foward and i’m not overly concerned about the metadata or past viewing history. just want to get up and running…any thoughts? thanks in advance for not posting a link to a plex article, i feel like i’ve read these.
So you’ve installed PMS on a PC, copied over all the media from the Mac, used PlexWeb to connect to PMS and created at least one new library and pointed it at your media - and you’re getting errors straight away ?
Yes. Now here’s the odd thing. In my IOS app i have a drop down for two different servers. Let’s call them server original, and Server Original (since i thought i named them the same, but the capitals must count)…
So - in the app, the new server with capitals shows up in the IOS app, and it plays content!..so does that mean the libraries are just being updated?
Assume this is the case, how do i delete the original server?
You shutdown the PMS instance on the Mac right? So you’re saying you had PMS running on the Mac called “server original” then set up a new PMS instance on a PC called “Server Original” ?
Use PlexWeb to go in to the PMS settings page. Select ‘Authorized Devices’ on the top left. Change ‘ALL’ to ‘SERVERS’ and both you PMS server names should show up there, remove the old one (careful here make sure it’s the one that is not powered up)
