Recently, I have moved my PMS installation from an Intel-based Mac mini (“HTPC-i7”) to a new M2 Mac mini (“HTPC-M2”). This worked flawlessly following the steps outlined here.
So far I have only managed video files in my PMS and I now wanted to set up a second PMS on the ‘old’ HTPC-i7 to test Plex’s music managing capabilities.
The problem: as soon as I start the second PMS on HTPC-i7 it seems to somehow thrust the first server aside and takes its place in the list of Authorized Devices. But, although only HTPC-i7 appears on that list, the other server, HTPC-M2, is still showing on the left hand side and can be accessed. Now, opening up a player, one will only be able to see HTPC-i7 and its Music library.
Not sure if I am not seeing the forest for the trees…
That’s because you have cloned the “identity” of your server, by transferring the plex data folder from your old to your new machine.
You must make them individuals again by editing the advanced Plex configuration on one of the machines.
Awesome, that did the trick! As always, knowledgeable and helpful, like a few other members in this forum.
In addition to the keys mentioned under this support article, I also had to delete these that you mentioned in your post:
