I too would love to have this type of feature as I too also run multiple Plex Servers. However, instead of syncing, I'd prefer they have an option to use a different SQL backend such as SQL Server or MySQL. The backend code might need a tweak here or there but for the most part multiple servers would talk to the same database and if mapped to the same meta-directory on the LAN would be doable.
Of course this wouldn't work for the person who wants to run independent servers in different locations but with synced status.
But regardless of how it was done (as long as it worked), I don't see this happening anytime soon. The people who need/want this functionality are quite in the minority. Maybe down the road a bit with Client Sync, Cloud Sync and other features that are CPU hogs. I think as more people start maxing their CPU the the sync functions and sharing functions this will become a more popular request (seems logical) but for now we are in the minority I'm afraid.
Using trakt kinda works, but has some serious limitations.
- It syncs all watched items without per-user separation, so if you share your library with another user, their watched state makes it into your trakt account, and then when resyncing, marks their watched items as your watched items in plex.
- If you restrict it to specific user accounts watched state (e.g. your own account only), if you have any clients that don't supply a username (e.g. UPNP-AV clients on SmartTVs that don't have a 'proper' Plex client), watched state from items watched through there don't get added to Trakt.
...and if neither applies to you, you're golden! Unfortunately for me...
I would like this feature as well. I manually did this between my two servers, but it was the entire library along with the unique token, so I had two servers acting like one server. Kinda strange. Have two PMS running, but I would like to have library transfers/sync between two servers.

Would love to choose the DB backend, and mysql would be perfect for this since it already has a sync feature.
+1 for meta data sync but also for being able to cluster servers if needed for load balancing.
+1 - I use 2 servers because of lack of CPU Power in any single computer I have and I personally believe this would be terrific addition that can allow consistent playback status on every server allowed, as well it could also be a doorway to synchronizing other avenues as well. I really believe in the Plex Dev team and know they can do it! Keep up the good work guys!!
Being the owner of a WD My Cloud PR2100 and WD My Passport Wireless Pro, I would like to be able to sync between the two Plex servers. The reason is because the PR2100 can do fast hardware transcoding on-the-fly, but the Wireless Pro cannot. Before syncing the two servers, I would see an option page to ask what format one server should serve to the other server.
For example, I would tell the PR2100 to transcode the selected movies into 4mbps 720p files before transfering them the Wireless Pro. Then I would use the Wireless Pro in the car for long trip with kids.
Kudos to Western Digital for these two excellent new products!!
