Hello my question is about a library from my friend. It shows up beautifully on my Samsung TV, the Plex app is very well done. However, when playing video in 1080p quality, even with botth our wifi being Fiber in a downtown area, the video is blocky. Pauses often.
So I think I can “sync” the content on my side before playing a video. This is a bit more painful as I have to wait for the whole video to sync first, and then I have to remember to un-sync it later so I don’t use up all the space in my TV’s hard drive.
Any tips on how to do this better? For TV shows how can automate the sync of the entire show, and then un-sync it later easily too instead of doing this episode by episode?
“blocky video” is usually caused by one of two scenarios:
Low Bandwidth
Fiber or not… if your friend’s upload is not sufficient to stream the maximum bitrate of a video file, things can get rocky and cause the video to be streamed in lower quality
Server not powerful enough for transcoding
If your clients asks the server for the video to be transcoded and your friends server is not up for it, this can cause stuttering or poor video quality
If the bandwidth is not an issue, try to make sure you can play the video on your TV in original or “maximum” quality to avoid unneeded transcoding.
PS: I’m not even sure if the Samsung TV can sync/download those videos…
