Syncing watched between two different versions of a show?

I have a show and then also the extended version of that show. Apparently the various tv databases don’t allow listing them as separate shows. Just an episode group that plex doesn’t really support.

The shows are stored in separate folders, named appropriately but when plex scrapes them, it combines them anyway. So I’ll look at episode 1 of the show and it’ll display both filepaths.

Way to fix this is to go to the show menu and select “split”. So now I have the same show listed twice in my library. I just changed the artwork for the extended release and I thought I was all good!

WRONG. Despite the separate listings, they still share the same watched status. So if I watch episode 1 of the regular version, it completes and continues to episode 2 if I try to play extended version.

This doesn’t seem like a big deal at first glance but my wife sleeps to the show. So I’d like it to play the regular version while she sleeps and keep track of the extended version so we can watch that together.

Is there a way to fix this or is it just too stupid for plex to bother with? :smiling_face_with_tear:

The issue could be solved by Edition support for TV shows.
Which is unfortunately not a thing, yet.

Hmmm in my case, I think the episode order and metadata is also slightly different. Part of the instructions from a thread I followed to get it to display properly was to change the plex settings for episode order. Plus it’s currently missing some seasons.

So yes +1 for this absolutely but also allow us to do it on a per-show level. Or just y’know, don’t sync separate listings of the same show. Cause maybe we have them separate for a reason?

Episode ordering can already be overridden by show.

Yes, I’m saying that the episode ordering is different per version of the same show for some reason. So if they were combined, one version or the other would be out of order.
