So why do all these play fine in the Apple TV Plex client? Because the chip in the Apple TV can stream VC-1?
Different Plex clients have different capabilities.
What direct plays on one may transcode on another.
I see that VC-1 was used in early Blu-rays, so hopefully my collection doesnât have too many of those. Fingers crossed
If it does and you are the viewer - you can always view those on the ATV Device - or drag a PfW (Plex For Windows) to the TV.
Roku will not direct play a VC-1 stream. Neither will Plexweb, but PfW will (I think).
Yes.
PfW is very nice. It will also direct play 4K HDR and tonemap & scale to 1080p SDR display.

Well⊠that must be why I keep one of those ready to go at all times⊠even though I no longer have any VC-1s.
Letâs also not forget to mention how much I love PfW when I discover I let Handbrake do the subs - and it does ASS with Formatting out the ASS, and what used to be nice small subs turn into HULK SUBS (literally 4 or 5 words is all that will fit on the screen)⊠all because there is no âOverride Subtitle Formattingâ button - like there is on every other Plex Client (almost).
But⊠I guess thatâs why we have Subtitle Edit.
Q: Does this ever end?
A: Yes - when you die.
lol
What do you mean âdrag a PfW to the TVâ? Can I somehow get the Windows client on the TV?
If you have an HDMI cable from the server to the TV.
Doesnât everyone?

The reason I maintain one is for awful audio mixdowns wherein the dialog is buried under sound effects. The only thing I have to combat that situation is the Windows Loudness Equalization (Dynamic Range Control) and the only way to get that is via that HDMI cable and PfW/PMP.
