Plex decided that the audio has to be transcoded because 5.1 isn’t supported (“audio.channels limitation applies: 6 > 2”), and since you had direct streaming disabled, Plex couldn’t just repackage the original video together with the transcoded audio, so transcoded the video as well.
Can’t speak to why things are still slow with direct stream though, since that NAS shouldn’t have any problems transcoding a single AAC track.

i played the same video on Vizo TV…WTF…direct play everything…
so then i am assuming that this is a Roku Ultra issue.
I can’t speak to why it’s taking so long to load, but it can’t be direct played because the audio is transcoding. Direct play is only possible if everything (container/video/audio/subtitles) can be played directly. Direct stream happens when at least one thing can’t be played directly, but others can. In your case, the audio can’t play directly, but the video can, so Plex copies the video stream as-is (i.e. no quality loss) into a new container, which is then sent to the client.

It’s reporting DirectPlay (if you take the screenshot too quickly)
but is really settling to be Transcode

The activity will always initially report as DirectPlay.
It tries that first unless it’s an absolute MUST TRANSCODE.
As soon as the video starts, you’ll see reality in the status.

Had issues with 1080p (HEVC Main10) in the past. Taking FOREVER to load so I stayed away from them, but this loaded quickly compared to the h264 1080p
Contents of the file is key.
I don’t know if your Roku is the same as mine but I had to change a few things to get rid of the “Direct Stream” and audio transcoding. I believe this was an audio sync problem with mkv files. I don’t think that issue exists anymore but this setting is still checked by default
In the settings I unchecked the box that says AAC stutter workaround here
I also changed direct play to force instead of auto. I don’t really have any media that needs transcoding on that TV so that may not be the best setting for everybody
Everything I’ve tried since then, from h.264 SD to h.265 Main 10 direct plays now
I have long since retired the Roku-3.
I’m running the 4800X which will take just about everything (into the AVR → LG)
hmmm…i have the roku ultra 4670x… might be time to upgrade

well bought a new Roku Ultra 4802RW.
Still not loading any faster; still around 30 seconds and the audio now transcodes to AC3 instead of AAC, but i guess thats is because of the new device.
Does the device playing the audio support aac 5.1. if not, changing the roku won’t change anything. It is transcoding because the audio is not supported.
