SynologyDS1520+..best settings for remote users

Synology DS1520+ running Plex Version 1.32.1.6999…

Just curious what are some of the BEST server settings for remote users…
Most are using Roku, AppleTV and Android TV…
Things have been running fine, but once a year I like to look at maintence for the PLEX.
See if anyone out there has suggestions…

Side note:
I plan on upgrading the 8gigs RAM to 20gigs RAM soon…

The DS1520+ has a Celeron J4125 CPU (What kind of CPU does my Synology NAS have?).

According to Intel, it supports a maximum of 8 GB RAM.

Same as anything else. Set your upload speed to as much as you can, don’t limit the bandwidth, don’t use the proxy, limi your user streams as you like. Ram and SSD cache for plex on synology is useless. It barely touches it no matter how much you have,

Just FYI those charts are BS. It’s just like the synology ‘supported drives’ chart. Untested doesn’t mean not possible.

I have a j3455, and oh look. Been running double the chart for years

I have mine set to: Limit remote stream bitrate UNLIMITED ORIGINAL

Correct

my settings for transcoding…3 streams is cut off at the bottom

All of that is personal preference and how much your particular server can handle it and anything else it;'s doing.

Thank you… only wish plex handled mutiple verions of movies better than it does

I never need multiple versions. I have the best, each client can transcode what they need off it.

i guess I mean mutiple editions of a movie…

That’s because you failed to name them properly, and they are showing as versions, not editions. Add {edition-xxxxxxx} to the filenames.

Star Wars.1977.{edition-Special Edition}.mkv for example. This is all covered in the online docs.

Problem is they show up in sperate folders… Other media service is able to put on in one folder and user can click which one to watch; like the screenshot i posted…Plex cant do that…would be nice if it would.

Editions are completely separate films. Versions are not. There should not be a drop down to select between different films. It’s correct.

thats too bad…Emby does great with that…BUT…I digress

LOL nope, you are still confused. Emby does versions the same way - and doesn’t even have the Editions feature.

the screenshot is from emby… Videos are in one folder.

There is a dropped down to allow to select which edition to watch, without having seperated them like plex does

Dude. That’s versions. It’s the workaround you have to do for Emby. Same as plex versions if you wanted it. Editions are not meant for that, like I already told you.

Well I found a workaround for MY needs… and it works for ME

There are lots of ways to ‘workaround’ a problem, but that’s still not the correct solution as it’s meant to be used. Enjoy your system
