Tech support - video management

hello this is 3rd attempt to write a topic

I would like to learn more about managing video content. I cannot find the help guides. Can someone point me to some guide that teaches me how to syntax my files in a way that plex can read it? I looked through the “guides” page and its chock full of jargon and buzzword. I can’t understand what each link points to and am way too lazy to look at each one of them. Can someone who knows provide some info? My ultimate problem is plex is scanning my video files and looking directly at the file names and not the folder names. I would really like it if plex would just show me folder names and I can click through those folders and see files. It seems plex is unable to accommodate me? I have over the past decade meticulously sorted my ridiculous amount of raw video files and would like to avoid renaming all of it (100,000+ files) … right now I can just see a list of filenames in the “other videos” library I added, which isn’t helpful, damn near infinite scroll. Searching too is not easy since my folder names are in shorthand … have I screwed the pooch here with a decision I made 10 years ago?

To be blunt: yes.

It always depends of course what kind of content you have.
If these are all private videos, then the current situation won’t improve much.
If these are regular movies and TV series, then you can improve the experience drastically - with some work (and perhaps some additional software tools to make this task less daunting).

You need to separate your media types into different folders on disk.
Then create different libraries for each media type.
