To preface, I usually have no issues when there are episode orderings in a logical way when using DVD or Aired ordered episodes. However there are times when the episode should jump to a special (S00) from season 1, then back to Season 2 when the special ends. And this happens a lot for anime content.
I’d use absolute ordering, but even that sometimes is not correct either, or the list is incomplete on the database, creating a lot of unmatched episodes for metadata.
Now, Plex does seem to have some logic to play a certain special next and then play the next season, but rarely is it correct.
Example: Made in Abyss should play S00E03 when S01E13 finishes, but I happen to also have the Season 1 recap movies. So instead Plex will autoplay S00E01 and S00E02 first. Then E03 and onwards is correct. A simple solution here is to remove 2 recap specials, but I shouldn’t have to do that.
So the feature suggestion is a way manually override what the next autoplay item in queue should be for an episode, rather than relying on if the tvdb or imdb viewing order happening to be right.
Manipulate the “Original Available”(Airing) date. Set it to a date after the previous and before the next regular episode.
This will make the special appear in the Continue Watching hub after you’ve watched the previous episode.
(Though it won’t do anything if you’re binge-watching.)
Adding to Otto’s point. There’s already a suggestion discussing an option to specify what should show next after an episode (or movie). So if „fixing“ the air dates won’t cut it for you, please comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes (in which case I’ll close this thread as a duplicate).
