Telling Plex Transcoder to not transcode HEVC

Hi All,

So I have been encoding some of favourite content in x265 recently to save some space and with the fact that most devices can now direct play x265 I thought that would be a good thing to do.
Now to the question I have - I am currently running an LG C7 with XPlay and or the official app, and have my sound output via ARC to my slightly ageing home theatre system. For whatever reason it doesn’t like AAC-LC 5.1 sound, well it can decode and play it but the association to the speakers is all wrong (the center sound come out of the back left speaker) so I presume it thinks it is WAV or some other format where the center channel is somewhere else. To “fix” the issue in XPlay I can do an Audio Boost which will transcode the aac to ac3 which my ht is happy to play. But at the same time it now transcodes my hevc files to x264 even though I have “original” set for video?
Is this by design? Or is this related to the XPlay app? I tried modifying the DLNA Profiles, but they only seem to work when syncing and not when watching/requesting a movie through the app. (Unless I am doing something wrong!)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

XPlay app is probably not supported by the Plex people.

Try the official Plex app. Mine handles everything HEVC, HEVC10, HDR bt.2020 , DTS, DTSHD, etc everything I’ve thrown at it as DirectPlays.

I have the exact same issue with the official Plex app - so it’s not specific to one or the other. In fact I’m thinking if it is possible overall to stop plex from transcoding HEVC… as for remote places forcing a transcode of a 3MBit HEVC file to 720p 2MBit seems a bit ridiculous and sometimes my family won’t know that a particular video is encoded in HEVC as it is not identified easily within apps

Post in the LG/Smart TV section, maybe they can help. I have a much crappier bargain bin non-OLED LG UH5500 that LG barely recognizes as their own on their website. From a couple years ago, 2015 or 6 maybe with the WebOS stuff and as I noted the official Plex app DirectPlays everything. Check for updates?

Thanks for your help, but it’s not really the issue playing anything. I can play things but sometimes I just want the audio transcoded and in other cases I don’t want hevc to be transcoded.
All is up to date in my setup
