Just a little confused…. Prior to seeing the NEW Plex mandatory subscriptions, I could access all Downloaded Vids, Photos, Home Movies etc via my TV screen…. but now I am getting an error message about making sure I have the necessary Drive connected. I have never had this issue before and wonder if it’s a Plex issue or if this is something they built into the New ‘Charging’ Platform. I didn’t have any issue with the new minimal charge of $19.99 p.a. until this started, which prompted me to cancel the subscription
That error is self explanatory. If you store your media on external drives, make sure the drive letter, lan ip, or share address, whatever you use has not changed.
This has nothing to do with the pass, it’s related to your server setup.
Thanks for the reply. Nothing relating to my external Drive has changed, which is why the self-explanatory error message is hard for me to fathom.
You can access all of this from other devices just not your TV?
Is this your server?
Other types of files (non Plex files) are accessible on this external drive?
Yes, I can access via my PC attached to external drive.
Actually, I just logged on on my PC and those folders will not load.
So you can’t see any files on this external drive from your PC?
If so, I’m going to bet the error is self explanatory as well.
Sorry, what I mean is when I log onto Plex on my PC, all I get is the error messages.
I can see the files without issue when I access them directly on my external drive.
Well, I haven’t seen it clearly spelled out that no, nothing in this new “remote watch pass” subscription of Plex should cause your folders to no longer be accessible.
So far, if you haven’t already, is checked if the drive letter of your external drive has changed. Plex will access your drive by letter, so if the letter changes, the entire filepath will be invalid. Edit your library’s sources, and check the current mapping, and compare them to your current letter you see in Windows. If you can, copy the entire path that Plex thinks your media is at in this window, and paste it into the address bar in Windows Explorer to see if it is somehow invalid.
If nothing works, try adding a NEW source in the current library, and navigate to the movie source this way. Apply, and see if the movies work. If this does nothing, create a new (temporary for now) library, and pick the folders as a source. If the movies show up there, you can delete the old Library and use this new one instead.
Lastly, I want to know if you are using sub-folders in your external drive. I recall hearing once that Plex does not like it when the media is in the ROOT folder of a drive, so it would be best to ensure you have something like G:/Movies as your source for a movie, rather than G:/.
It would probably be best to post server logs or screenshots to solve this.
Thanks again - No the Drive letter is the same. I do have sub-folders, but these have never caused an issue.
In the meantime, I decided to cancel the new Remote Pass subscription and just access my files on my PC….. Thanks for your help on this.
UPDATE: After this message, I did try a final log-on to my Plex on TV and low and behold, it is now playing videos, movies etc however, it will not open Photos (which it did before - no problem). All my folders and contents are showing on the TV App as they did before, but seems just the Photo files and Whattsapp Vids will no longer actually open.
Thanks - for now I have cancelled the new Remote Pass Prescription and will just access my files on my PC…. Appreciate the response
