Where exactly would I see this new feature ? I know it’s not an important feature, but they’re mentioning it in articles. I just can’t find it, or an option to turn it on, etc…
I’m on Version 4.64.3, just did the sonic and movie updates.
Thank you!
The “on this day” card(s) will show on the home screen of Plex Amp.
They will show for albums released in intervals of 5 years from today, so e.g. for their respective 5, 10, 15, 20, 25… year anniversaries.
The cards should show somewhere next to the “mixes for you” carousel.
Thanks for the response, especially so quickly. Do if nothing shows, then there’s obviously not a pertinent item for this date in my collection.
Thank you very much.
You can do a quick check by displaying your library by albums and sort them by their release date to check if there’s any releases in the remaining days of August or September 2016, 2011, 2006, 2001… to look forward to.
Some upcoming anniversaries will be Ed Sheeran’s “+” album released in September 2011 or Nirvana’s “Nevermind” from September 1991
All of my release dates are January 1st. Is there a way for Plex to put the actual date in?
A lot of mine are too, I do wonder if it’s possible to rescan and pull that information.
I think in my case it’s because my tags only have year in the date field and I have prefer local metadata checked.
Precisely.
If you use the Plex Music agent (without “Prefer Local Metadata”), it will fetch the full date from Musicbrainz - if the version of the album has the full date attached on MB.
Otherwise you need to put the full date into your embedded metatags.
Hint: in flac files you need to use the RELEASETIME
vorbis tag and put the date in this format YYYY-MM-DD
into it. (The DATE meta tag is for the recording date, which is usually only known for live recordings.)
Otto,
Thanks for the explanation. People like you are making getting this all figured out, so much easier!
Thanks otto. Turned off prefer local metadata and release dates were populated on next refresh.
Is there a way to only update the release dates, and leave everything else as is? I know I had problems with quite a few albums, and didn’t want to have to fight them again.
None that I’m aware of, sorry.
If you’ve got Prefer Embedded Tags enabled, Plex will assume you’re managing your tags manually and won’t override anything you’ve provided. You can use something like Picard to clean up the tags, or you can disable the embedded tags preference, and Plex will look up the dates for you.
Where is ‘mixes for you’? How can I get this to appear?
M4U cards should appear on the Plexamp Home Screen after the sonic analysis is completed. This will also need a sufficient amount of sonically similar artists/albums.
