The obnoxious pushing of not-my-media

Correct. I just think we’re going to go through a few more tries of monetisation by Plex with the result that its not going to work out for them. Just my 2c.

I used to use a hardware meda server (Western Digital WD TV Live) and used that to get movies to the TV. I had four hard drives hanging off that thing. Then WD discontinued the box as streamers made it not worth it. PLEX filled the gap and it was much better. I just hope PLEX doesn’t run off and try to become Pluto and forget its roots. From a technical standpoint, it would be easier for them to stop messing with all this media server stuff as it often breaks and hacks people off. But it is why I use the product.

Too Late.

There’s more coming: https://techcrunch.com/2020/01/07/media-streamer-plex-to-add-subscription-channels-rentals-and-more/

Honestly, this is really disheartening. I don’t want to support the development of this nonsense. There are so many other apps that do that other stuff WAY better already. I need Plex to do an amazing job with my own media, but they’re just not nearly as focused on that anymore.

Yep. So that just happened.
I open my Plex app, and there is a popup about “movies on plex” and a new library on the sidebar called “movies and TV on Plex” featuring rubbish that is not in my library. And then I have to turn it off.
Argh!

If this continues, then it’s Kodi time. Sure, I’ll I have to rebuild my libraries etc. and probably spend more time matching titles etc. but it will beat having to deal with this.
I do not think I will buy the Plex Pass now.

All that trouble just to not go to settings and slip one switch?

Ok, so you did not get it.
I advise you to read through the thread.

Why? It’s just like every other thread regarding Movies and TV.

It is what it is.
Turn it off and be done with it - until you have to tell users how to turn it off - or tell them to enjoy it, but it’s all Plex.

Our options are limited, but I’d rather be the loser in a Pedestrian/City Bus accident than switch to Kodi - and Plex knows that.

Plex has gotten so bad I left them too. Plex is more polished but the end result is not better than emby. I check on this forums so see if they ever fix things but they never do, they just keep forcing non-sense. The only real issue I have with emby is that subtitles are very hit and miss.

Meh… who reads documentation anyway?

Documentation is something to be quoted when you’re telling somebody their scene file name won’t work - then an Employee comes along, uses the wrong name, but reminds everyone that Fix Match only takes a moment.

What is Plex?
Yea, it’s that.

This statement perfectly reflects my view as well. I’d click the like button, but it’s not strong enough.
